Not much of a surprise since most people feel Chip Kelly was hired to try and fix Kaepernick. This should be interesting.
tough call for Kelly no doubt, but he and only he, should decide. that means forget what Jed York or Baalke's opinion might be. i seem to recall they believe Kaep is good, just not handled properly?
my opinion is move on, we'll see?
I know the cap has increased and the Niners have cap room, but I wonder if Kaepernick would restructure his contract for this year making 1) a trading team more likely to trade for him, 2) his whatever-2016-base be guaranteed now instead of April; 2) something guaranteed in 2017, assuming it is less than the full amount but more than an open market FA contract if he fails this year. (8 mill guaranteed this year, 8 next year - obviously the team who keeps him would have to pay the full 14.5 if they keep him, 8 dead money if they released him.)
This would only happen if the team wanting to trade is cap strapped. They could obviously have an agreement with Kaepernick himself, but that's hard to do before a trade.
If my numbers are crazy, adjust as necessary, just throwing the idea out there.
Im a little shocked on how quite Kelly has been.I don't think anyone really knows what is going on in anyone's mind right now. Kelly has been really mum about everything. So far, I haven't found anything about what is going on with the QBs
Im all good with it. I see no issues with it. Either Kelly can fixes him or not. He is year to year anyways. If he flops you play Gabbert. The Question do they take a QB in the 2nd or 3rd rd to sit or do they still grab QB with the 1st pick. If you go QB with the 1st pick u better just cut Kap because the writing will be on the wall.
I'm waitng until the end of March to see if this is going to be a reality. It's probably going to be true but I'm hoping it isn't.
Considering Baalke made this announcement at the NFL Combine I think he's just trying to set the 49ers up in the best position possible to trade Kaep. He should at least be able to get 2nd round pick for him even with the struggles the last 2 seasons.
I trust this F.O. comments as much as I can throw Levis Stadium 20 feet.Constant lies and diversion.
