My view is based on HIS past and where he was projected to be by now just 2 years ago.
If he doesn't want it, it's his life, but he has without doubt lost the edge that made him one of the 3 or 4 greatest amateurs ever and had him off to an all time great start as a pro.
I get your point, he's not a loser by any stretch, but IF he wants to be great, he has mental work to do.

I think any golfer coming out with the expectation that they will be the next Tiger or Jack is just set up for disapointment.

I think we will see him be a top 10-20 golfer for 15 years or so. A fantastic career, one of the greats, but not on the level of the big 2

He WAS the exception though, it was right there. Tiger wasn't Tiger till he proved he was.
If it entered Spieth's mind he was less, he was already in a bad frame of mind.

I'd give him a very generic 50% of having a truly great career after today.
As somebody important once said,
''the longer you don't do it, the less likely you ever will''.

it's kind of adorable to see an OP try to defend something so stupid

"spieth a has-been at 23" is something either a troll posts, or something a sub-90 iq tween posts on any sports message board

i'm hopeful it's the former and not the latter in this case.

I liked the part where he claimed in his OP that Johnny Miller was also a "has been" at 23. Except for the fact that Miller won the U.S. Open at 26 (I was wrong earlier in the thread) and 8 more PGA events the following year (74), 4 tour wins in 75 and 3 more, including the Open at Royal Birkdale in 76.

To summarize, the OP is a drooling water head.

Ridiculous to write him off but the amount of Speith cock sucked by the media has also been ridiculous

The current next-tiger who hasn't even done a fraction of what Speith has is this John Rham character.

The media is so hot for the next tiger they fellate anyone who makes a string of pars.

This has been true for years. Before Spieth too.

Ever since Tiger's spiral started, the media started hyping a new kid up every damn month it felt like. Just throwing stuff at the wall and hoping to see it stick. There's some good young talent in the game right now, but there's no Tiger. It wasn't just Woods talent, it was his charisma and the way he played the game. A combination like that is very rare.

He's 23 and has already accomplished so much. He's a kid, and the start he got off to at age 21 was unprecedented. He'll be around for a long time and have many more moments to shine.

Instead of just letting the results drive this, the golf media is so desperate for the next great player (particularly an American) they go way overboard on anybody that wins anything of significance.

The reality is...we might be in for the 2nd wave of a Greg Norman type era in golf where you don't have a Goliath...but a handful of top tier players that will juggle the #1 ranking (I know Norman did dominate that ranking) and major titles.

I disagree... Tiger would not have been as dominant against these great young golfers as he was 15 years ago. The competition is much more intense now.

Could be, but these arguments are pointless & can never be proven. Why not just enjoy golfers from all eras? What is wrong with saying that Jack, Arnie, Tiger & others were great & guys like Rory, Speith, Day, Johnson, etc have a chance to be great or at least very good at the least?

Why does liking or celebrating one have to always come at the expense of some other golfer for some folks? Again - you can never prove anything in these debates where you are comparing athletes from different eras. I have a tendency to believe that great golfers or athletes would adapt & shine regardless of when they played.

The OP just sounds like some random loser who has to get satisfaction by putting down others to make up for the shortcomings in his own life. Enjoy that pal.

Well he had a bad day Sunday and quickly fell out of it. I guess that settles it. He's a bum. Hopefully he can find some honest work now that the golf thing didn't work out.

The kid blazed through his amateur career and set the tour on fire at 21 years old in 2015.
Since then he has should no ability to manage expectations.
He hasn't sniffed a major title since that great run, he is over par in majors since 2015.

He wouldn't be the first to not have the makeup to sty on top. I can't recall another golfer being great at 21 and average at 23 though. Johnny Miller might come closest.

Once again you prove to know nothing about everything. Just stop dude. Please stop.
