Zona isn't as good as people were making them out to be, but UW has been horrible on the road at both schools in that state for a long time.

Of course we should still have concerns about this team and in particular the glaring problems on offense. They just look lost and without any kind of plan for stretches and it's frustrating.

That said, that second half was huge. The players came together and shifted gears. First win after trailing at halftime in a long time. Actual coaching adjustments at halftime. Game time for some of the younger kids we've been screaming to see. And a rare road win in the desert.

Not a bad place for this team to be going into the duck game.

Defense is gonna have to be discipline in their keys, stay true to their zones and wrap to tackle to make this game close

The counter to that is they have only played two road games so far and scored 21 points in both. They have not been as dangerous on offense away from home.

Can UW's offense score at least 24?

if they attack with a balance of run and pass, Ducks defense isn’t lights out

That's the point. Duck fans are pointing out their conference defense stats and so far that includes exactly one road game. That game was against a putrid Stanford team that scored like 7? And still could only manage 21 despite all of their opportunities.

UW is flawed and has at least inconsistencies on both sides, if not issues. Still. It's a home game, rivalry game, and last game before their first bye. Also first home game in 3 weeks after back to back road games.

Im not ready to concede by any stretch.

Both have lost key players on offense as well. Newton was a beast until his injury.

This is where we see what kind of coach Petersen is. They need to show up in that first half and at least look like they have a gameplan. It's not a given they will, but if they do I love their chances. Herbert on the road just hasn't ever impressed me.

That was a bad first half, really on both sides of the ball. Shit happens on the road. The surprising thing was that they actually adjusted and overcame being behind at the half and came back to win. Not just win, but really dominate that second half.

Makes you feel a lot better about where they are heading. Ducks are coming in this week full of their own success but really haven't faced their toughest stretch yet. Their next 5 games will define their season. Sure, they beat both of the teams that beat UW, but both had solid defenses against them and they were games at different times for both of those teams.

Seeing Puka break out a bit in that game and seeing that defense come back on the road against a strong running team and got things going bodes well.

Ducks open as 3 point favorites, but I'm putting at least 5k vCash on the dawgs to win.

Unfortunately the first half was how I anticipated the entire game to go. Not trying to defend my wrong opinion that we would've lost that game, but Arizona also just seemed to completely give up by the 4th quarter.

I am happy that the coaches are now taking a chance on playing a number of players who didn't see many snaps previously.

One of the most encouraging signs for me is how strong the pass rush looked. I expected Khalil Tate to have a huge game but they completely contained him in the pocket and put a lot of pressure on him.

Yeah the tale of two half's again. It was nice to see them snap that streak of when trailing at halftime as well.

I think reality set in with the coaching staff that if the fans and the media are okay with the younger guys playing then roll with it and let them gain the experience now instead of down the road.

Asa Turner, Ariel Ngata and Puka Nacua all out performed the guys they replaced. The depth chart indicates that Ngata won't be starting at inside linebacker, but I think he played extremely well there. Asa Turner missed a few tackles but he looked really good to me.

If it were up to me, all three would be starting against the Ducks.

I agree they weren't as good as people made them out to be, but I have to say that the pass rush by the Dawgs was the best I've seen it against a Power-5 team in a long time. One thing I liked is that it seemed as if the Huskies were running a bunch of different defensive formations and getting creative with their blitzes. Additionally they did a great job containing Khalil Tate.

The Ducks look like the best team we will play all year. Not sure what to make of them. They beat two teams we should've beat, they played a good game against Auburn and get an extra day off.

Luckily this team is a different animal at home but I think we will lose. On the bright side! For all of my infinite wisdom I thought the Huskies would beat Stanford and lose to Arizona.

I've said it from day one when Pete landed here, "roll with the younger guys if the older guys can't figure it out!" I thought Pete would've played it by now. Sometimes his loyalty to kids goes to far, ( and I get why but) at the end of the day its about building a winner, a program that is talked about year in and year out as being one of the best.

Defensively I think Lake and coach K got really creative with some of the 2nd half adjustments. Sometimes they just line up and tell offenses to "give us what you got and we will out play you cause we have better athletes." But reality is sometimes you need to make the adjustments, create those turnovers, and yes for the first time in a very long time this Dline was very very active up front. Constant pressure on a QB, ( even if they say he's a dual threat QB) take them off their spots and make them throw that tough pass.

That is one big reason that Saturday is winnable. Herbert is not great under pressure. It is a big factor in his terrible road record. Take him out and make them beat you on the ground.

Plus his big TE is out as well!
It’s the right time to be playing the Ducks, granted it would have been nicer for a top five match up or top 10, either way Dawgs have a chance to take out another link in Ducks recruiting out here on the coast with a decisive win!

Boy do I have a very tough decision going on:

Got a ticket to the game, buddies will be up there around 6AM tail gating, I was going to get up about 5 and head up to Angel Lake and take the rail up. Well my youngest ( 8th grader) this is actually his first fall of playing football ( he's my baseball star) anyways his team is in the playoffs semi finals for the title starting at 6 back down in Oly!

Could've just been me being tired and drunk but one of the things I noticed was that it looked like UW rolled out a lot of different defensive formations and generated pressure in a lot of creative ways. Also the DL/OLBs really stepped it up. To paraphrase I believe that Kevin Sumlin said something along the lines that the defense did a lot of things they weren't prepared for.

I thought Khalil Tate would have a great game but the defense really contained him and he looked panicked quite frequently.

Not much of a decision. There will be plenty of other games with your buddies, including duck games every other year. You can't get your kids first semi final game back ever again.

If you can swing both, then by all means, but you can't dare be late for the fam.

Oh yeah I know, ( they want me to call the defense for the semi game) so I am going to be a good boy and watch the game from cozy living room ( and stay dry) .

It really wasn't a debate, priority is always my boys and always will be, I just need to vent it, sometimes coaching and work take a toll mentally on you. Its the grind, up early to get out of work early to get to practice and do it all over again after Friday Nights...

No they brought pressure from different parts of the defense, I think with Tate's mentality of running with the ball they took advantage of bring pressure from one side to flush him to another side where they had three to four guys waiting to take him down.

Plus Bowman was seriously blowing that OT up in the 2nd half. Almost looked like a wide 9 approach by the Dawgs

Yeah that's what I noticed. The wide-9 thing was something that stuck out to me. The defensive lineman - especially Bowman who you mentioned - did a great job containing Tate in the pocket and generating pressure on the edges.

I'm assuming that your son plays at 6pm? I don't ever remember playing a game at 6am lol.

You could try to manage both depending on timing. I think it takes roughly 45-50 minutes between the Angle Lake light rail station to the UW station. Not sure how long the drive would take down to Olympia since I seldom drive further south than Tacoma. If you leave around 4 and the drive is only an hour from that station to Olympia, you could make it on time or a tad late. Probably a somewhat optimistic estimate but I'd be surprised if you didn't get there by 7 at the latest.

Also if the game is at 6am you could attend the game and just try to rush to Seattle. You'd miss most/maybe all of the tailgate, but at least you'd be able to attend the game.

Tough call. As @WizardHawk said family takes precedent and there are other great home games you can attend.
