This month’s release outlines an unchanged pattern in the top three rankings of the ISS Top 30. With one more final release to go, Auston Matthews, Jesse Puljujarvi and Patrik Laine are locked into their respective top three rankings for May. Dante Fabbro is the biggest mover, jumping drastically into #19 based upon an outstanding showing at the 2016 World Under-18 Championship.

"He stood out and was well liked by our scouts at the World U18’s,” says ISS Hockey Director of Scouting Dennis MacInnis. “Fabbro showed patience and composure with the puck in all situations. He has the ability to create offence from anywhere on the ice.

C'mon! I really want Rimer to sprain his face trying to say Puljujarvi

Tkachuk is having an incredible OHL playoffs (second in primary pts behind Marner with the most goals). Maybe some people who were iffy on him before are warming up.

Anyone who knows better than I do think any of Juolevi-Sergachev-Chychrun will be NHL-ready next year?

Personally I don't do much more than just add playoff games to the rest. I have two main concerns about playoff data. The first is the obvious one, it's a small sample. The second is that not only is the number of games smaller, but the number of opponents is too. A player might face a team that has particular trouble with him or players like him (or the other way too I suppose, a team that handles him well) and then have seven straight games to beat up on them while the team on the other end of the spectrum that could handle him well gets knocked out by another team. I just throw it all on the pile pretty equally.

And I don't know that it's fair to say that I was all that "iffy" on him anyway. Saying that he's a top 10 prospect but doesn't have the upside for me to want to take him 4th overall is still pretty high praise I think. Although I suspect he wouldn't be impressed by it, so please don't tell him

I don't think that any of the 3 will be in the NHL next year but Chychrun would be best equipped to handle it. But I think whoever drafts him will tell him to go down for a year and show he can really dominate the level for an entire season, play first pair minutes at the WJHC etc.

I don't disagree regarding smaller sample size, but look at how much stock is put into the WJC and on a larger scale (because more prospects play in it) the W18's and the Mem Cup. At the very least it might be enough to sway the minds of a few writers and at least a GM or two.

And didn't mean you in particular, just that the last five lists (and maybe more, I only went back to that Damien Cox mock draft dash posted) posted in here had him lower than 4th.

As I think you've stated previously BBB, it seems to be very close regarding guys 4 through 10 that a team (like the Oilers) could and maybe should look to trade down and pickup some immediate help for their blue line.

The problems with that (for the Oil anyway) are:

1. Other teams no this too, so why would they give up anything of significant value to move up? Maybe the Oilers would fall for something like that, but... oh wait.

2. You need to trust the Oilers' scouting staff to have identified their guy who will be available for sure later in the round. I don't know about you but I don't really have a tonne of trust in that group.

Because there's a possible franchise player available? :noidea:

Oh I suspect it will definitely sway some writers and scouts/GMs, I have no doubt that some (most?) of them overrate playoff performance.

In the 4th slot? Not much better chance of finding that there then there is at say 6-10 this year.
While I agree with you (obligatory puke), there's obviously a premium on centres and if enough teams rate Dubois high enough they may be inclined to trade up to get him before anyone else does. In that scenario Edmonton would be in a really good position to cash in. You can make the case that every team from 9 on down right now needs a 1C.

Read an almost perfect example of what we were talking about in the Sun this morning from Michael Traikos:

Michael Traikos said:
Kasperi Kapanen

The Finnish forward only had 25 points in 44 games with the Marlies, but he made up for it at the world junior championship where he scored the overtime winner to win gold.

The guy was a useful player for an elite AHL team as a teenager, but that didn't make much of an impression on Traikos. But one goal that he scored while playing against other teenagers (and unless I'm remembering wrong it was the only goal he scored in the entire tournament) redeemed him.

Yeah that's...that's bang on.

Also totally ignored that he was battling nagging injuries all year with the Marlies, or that 25 pts for a 19 year old is pretty damn good lol. But yep, WJC HERO!
