It gets kind of ugly when you look at what the Jackets have that are likely untradeable vs what is tradeable.

Won't be involved in the plot: Clarkson, Johnson, Tyutin, Hartnell, Prout, Savard, Dubinsky, Foligno, Boll

Would potentially be involved: Jenner, Jones, Atkinson, Bob, Korpisalo, Saad, Bjorkstrand, Wennberg, Karlsson, Murray, Milano, Paliotta, Rychel, Goloubef

I would be fine with almost anyone on the top list going (love Hartsy and Foligno though), but they won't. I'd probably prefer to keep most of the bottom list because we already know what each brings.

He isn't prying away two top three picks with only Rychel or Wennberg. Not even one of the picks for both of them etc. And no one with a top 3 pick is gonna take on one of the salary hogs for it. No need to.
Where's Werenski? At least one of him, Murray or Jones would be going. You might get lucky by the fact he's still the rawest of the three, but he might offer him before Jones.

A lot of factors, though. What have the bridge deal negotiations with Jones looked like? How does Torts like him vs what Werensky looks like in Lake Erie, etc (hint- he's been a beast). I don't think the Jackets have any plans to ever let Werensky go. I doubt Murray or Jenner would be let go either. Both have been called "future captains".

Plus there's the whole lottery thing. If the Jackets get one of the top 3 on their own, then it makes it a lot easier to pass on a few guys for one of the other top three. If the Jackets own pick is 5-7, then... well you gotta break more eggs. Eggs they can't afford to break, IMO

Also depends on who else is in that top three (assuming the Jackets get there). Calgary would want a goalie. Montreal needs less. Arizona wouldn't let a chance to get Mathews go no matter what and so on.

stuff from the cesspool:

a scout said to the cesspools morning producer "whoever doesnt draft Matthews first overall is an effin idiot"

they mentioned Allan Walsh (Laines agent) publically said there is a 20% chance that Laine gets selected first overall  Its not on twitter (unless he deleted it) so I dont know if he said it on a radio station or in a print interview somewhere

Leafs have a 20% chance of winning the draft lottery

CBJ = 9.5% chance of winning the draft lottery
PLUS
VANCOUVER = 11.5% chance of winning the draft lottery

???

WE ARE THE 20%!!!!

Edmonton could have Boston's odds and win it. Don't waste your hopes and dreams on first, say your prayers for second.

Yup, I'm preparing myself for the Oilers to win again. 5 Cups in 7 years, 5 number one draft picks in 7 years, it's symmetry man.

It's probably why I've been convincing myself Laine might be the better pick (even though I think Laine would be the better pick for Edmonton regardless). At this point I'll be happy if anybody not called Montreal Ottawa or Boston winds up in 1st overall besides Edmonton.

not what its about lol
I was more trying to figure out what gave Allan Walsh the impression that his client had a 20% chance (odd (yet even) number lol) of being picked 1st overall ... did some team (or combination of teams) let him know that they would pick his client if they won the lottery?

Laine closes gap on Matthews atop TSN draft rankings

This time, in a survey of the same 10 scouts – conducted in the run-up to Saturday's NHL draft lottery – two of the 10 said Laine is now No. 1 on their team's lists.

Maybe that's what he's pointing to.

Interesting that the top six prospects (according to Bobby Mac) are all forwards. The Flames definitely need more skill in their top 2 lines, but I really like Juolevi's game.

/Of course, if fortune smiles in the Flames direction, disregard the above (lol).

Keep in mind that these are NHL scouts he polls. Not his opinion on a ranking (he leaves that to the TSN experts like Craig Button).

But there is just too much forward talent available and if one trend has emerged in the NHL recently it's the difficulty of scoring. You can't pass on talented forwards.

I see the Flames landing either in the 6th or 7th spot on Saturday, but I still think 1 or perhaps 2 teams might select a dman leaving one of the talented forwards available for Calgary.

/I don't think teams will be able to move into one of the top 3 spots, but you may be able to swing a deal prior to the draft to move into draft position 4 or 5.

I just don't think there's much point in moving from, say, 8 to 4. It's a coin flip in terms of prospect quality, at least to the untrained eye. Why give up more assets when there's only a small chance you're getting the better player by moving up?

On the other hand, when Edmonton does win 1st it's going to be fascinating watching how they play this. They have so many options available to them - draft Matthews and trade Draisaitl & RNH, draft Laine and trade Hall, trade the pick..it would definitely provide for the most entertainment after you're finished banging your head on the wall in agony.

I agree with the bolded, yet you know that teams definitely have an eye on a certain player and I think that we are going to see some moves.

/I also agree that the Oilers could really do quite the team makeover if they decide to gut some of the current rotten core.

More and more I'm thinking Laine is the guy in this draft. He has every kind of shot, every kind of goal-scoring attribute and they all already look NHL caliber at 18.

I think the ratings for the NHL draft lottery in Canada will be much higher than any playoff game to date.
