Unfortunately the Kings were the first team to offer a contract. I don't see why he'd choose us over them.

Who's to say that the offers are equal? Obviously, LA has the means to offer the same if not more, but who knows.

Well, Trotz has said a couple times in the past that Clowe is one of his favorite players and he'd love to have him in Nashville.

Cmon, stop getting me all worked up.

Cool. Package for Weber?

There's got to be a market out there for Clowe. People see the puck protection and ruggedness and would love to have this guy. Doug needs to parlay him(+) into a less slow top 6er.

whole lotta irons in the fire right now... top 6 for nash. Top few for Doan. Even possible rumors about weber (though these dont seem well published).

Dougie is clearly working the phones...

I would love to see see both doan and Nash in SJ as long as they can come without losing more than 1 forward or one of the young Dmen. Truth is as much as I dont want to give up too much for nash, he could be a key addition for the future. If Parise gets 7.5 on he market, the Nash at 7.8 is pretty much market, especially at 28 years old and the term of the deal (i.e. not giving him 7.8M until he's 40).

Id actually lovea pavs+nemo for nash deal.

Oh, I'm sure but it never hurts to have a player the other teams head coach highly covets.

No doubt. Also doesn't hurt that the head coach has a lot of clout within the organization.

For some reason, I thought Weber was signed for 1 more year. Turns out, he is an RFA with no contract at the moment.

Doan is now gonna wait until July 16th to make a decision. What happens when the 16th rolls around and this signature thing becomes a massive dispute about the deadline having already passed? I say forget Doan since he clearly doesn't want to leave Phoenix which is perfectly understandable. Go ahead and sign Semin now and call it a day Doug.

If that's possible I might just prefer this too. I love Doan, but Semin would, imo, guarantee pushing one of the centers playing winger on the top line down to the 3rd line center position, and that's what I want most of all.

Besides he has rabid critics and defenders. He'd fit right in here.

For sure, Trotz should have as much pull as any HC in the league I would think in regards to personnel.

The confusion probably stems from nobody throwing an Offer Sheet at him yet. Also, there have been rumblings/rumors of teams throwing a 1 year deal at him so that the Preds are forced to match or lose him for picks and then he'd be an UFA next year. In the "good ol' boys" network that is the NHL though, it takes a real dick to do that (ala - Bobby Clarke or Kevin Lowe).

I'd assume if the Preds and Sharks were to make a trade for Weber, it would be something like Clowe, Murray, Braun, Demers, Tomas Hertl and the 2013 1st Rounder. I know the Preds have a ton of depth on defense in their system, but losing Suter and Weber would make them take a huge hit.

Agreed. Can't put all your eggs into the Doan basket only to have it drop (he stays in PHX). Scared to give Semin a rich multi year deal though. He's like a box of chocolates.

It's possible that teams have talked about sending him an offersheet but Weber's not going to sign one if he wants out of Nashville. He might not even risk a one year offer.

I would still expect Boyle to be sent back assuming Nashville isn't on his no trade list. Even without Suter and Weber the Preds could be a competitive team and Boyle would provide a productive stop gap until the younger guys are ready to the bigger role. Something like: Clowe, Boyle, one of Braun/Demers/Murray, one of Hertl/Hamilton/Nieto, and a 2013 1st. Maybe another conditional pick dependent on Clowe re-signing.

How many teams can Boyle list on his "can't trade me here" list?

Yes, 8, per capgeek:

CapGeek.com :: It's a numbers game :: NHL Player Contract Salary History :: Dan Boyle

Also, DP had a blog post the other day where he mentioned he asked Marleau whether he's at that bridge yet (alluding to Marleau's earlier "we'll cross that bridge when we get there" comment at the end of the playoffs) and he said "no".

In that same blog post, I think he mentioned that he asked Boyle if Dougie asked him to submit a list of his 8 teams and he answered "no".

Not to say that Dougie has to rush to ask him for the list of 8 (he can just do it last minute, I assume) but still, FWIW...

I didn't really like how Pollak phrased the question to Boyle. Typically limited NTC's like Boyle's require the player or player's agent to provide the GM with the list of acceptable and not acceptable teams by July 1st. Doug shouldn't have to ask for the list it should have been already provided to him.

Well that puts a lot of power in the player's hands. I mean, if we are speculating there are trade talks with Weber, and that it may involve Boyle, Boyle will also know. If Doug comes to Boyle asking for the list today, Boyle will put down Nashville and that kills the deal.

It should be mandatory that come July 1, submit the list to the GM. Like homework. Here's what I think would be on Boyle's list (he;s from Ottawa):

CLB
EDM
CGY
NYI
WPG
CAR
MTL (close to home, but not contending team)
TOR (close to home, but not contending team)

Yeah, makes sense that it shouldn't be asked for and should just be submitted on July 1st by the player's agent... I thought it was strange that it's basically implied that nothing was submitted because it wasn't asked.

News coming around 2PM, eh Brodie?

Vlasic extension maybe? They already did the official announcements for the coaches, yeah?
