Pretty impossible to make even an educated guess about the market for a depth forward, imo. With only two slots on the roster, G depth is much easier to judge team to team.

Perhaps they looked at Torrey Mitchell getting $1.9 and Doug thought Burish at $1.8 was a good deal. There are plenty of grinders to make comparisons to. To be fair, let's look at what's going on today for grinders:

Torrey Mitchell $1.9 cap hit for 3 years
Glass $1.1 for 2 years
John Mitchell $1.1 for 2 years
Moss $2.1 for 2 years

The $1.8 is whatever. The 4 years is what I don't like.

We can compare who went where so far, but I was more speaking to the idea that we don't really know who was looking for a player like Burish. It's speculative at best to say no one else was calling when so many teams need lower line forwards.

What's wrong with 4 years if you're ok with the 1.8? I'm kinda the other way around.

I guess we can hope that Wilson will make some good trades this offseason, because I don't see them doing anything good today.
If the bottom 6 are Handzus-Wingles-Desi-Burish-TJ-etc.....this is season will go just like the last one did.

Matt Carle is in Napa today, if that means anything.

Ponikarovsky signed 1 year $1.8M deal with Winnipeg. I guess Wilson had no interest in signing a legit 3rd liner that can score 20+ goals.....

I looked at his numbers and they were pretty good, especially being on some shitty teams. Read some article about him and they used one of those measuring stats and he looks like a good player. Would you rather have him at 1.8 or Burish?

I'd bet the management told him there is no way they'd let him offer a long deal like that either.
Taking chances like this has definitely paid off for other teams. Hossa's deal comes to mind quickly. LA trading for Richards and then Carter is another...

Considering it's the first day of UFA and everyone gets overpaid, $1.8 is whatever. With the way grinders are supposed to play, their bodies can break down starting near their lower 30s limiting their skill set, a skill set that does not usually include hands or offensive IQ, two skills I feel do not diminish as quickly as a player ages.

So here's a 29 year old Burish that turns 30 during the 12-13 season signed for four years.
