3rd Quarter 6:51
3rd Down 3 To Go

Formation: Shotgun Tight Left Slot Right
Personnel: RB TE 3 WR

Assignments:
22 - Protection
88 - 10 Yard In
15 - Slant
89 - Out and Up
16 - Drag

Result:

Kearse runs a nice rub route. The S thought he was jumping Baldwin's out route and just ended up colliding with Kearse and his own guy. This gave Baldwin a couple steps on the defender, but the ball could have been thrown better. Not that I think that Baldwin would have gotten more than the 22 he got, but it may have been easier that a sliding on his ass catch. jackson does a good job picking up the blitz.

Formation: I Tight Right Split Left
Personnel: 2 RB TE 2 WR

Assignments:
34 - 1 Hole
40 - Lead
84 - Block
83 - Block
13 - Block

Result:

Nowak and Britt get blown up immediately, but Coleman's lead block on LB gives Rawls enough space to cut back into the void left by the lines down blocking to the left. Helfet does a decent job blocking the DE and what could have been a lose becomes a 4 yard gain.

As expected, a whole lot of issues missing blocking assignments. Not that we needed a complete breakdown to know that, but this definitely gives a much better idea of who was missing what. I think most agree that Graham needs to be split out wide more or just used to chip rushing DE's and LB's when in on passing plays. So far sounds like Helfet has had one major blunder but has played well other than that.

Nice job with this @blstoker. Real interesting read.

Formation: I Tight Right Wide Left Tight Wide Left Shift Tight
Personnel: 2 RB 2 TE WR

Assignment:
34 - Stretch
40 - Lead Block
84 - Block
88 - Block
83 - Block

Result:

Jimmy Graham once again blows his assignment. He gave it a valiant effort this time, but he just couldn't block the OLB and it start a chain reaction. First, getting pushed back made it so Okung couldn't get to his assigned block, then the OLB got his leg entangled with Coleman, tripping him and making it so he couldn't make his lead block. Okung's and Coleman's responsibilities (along with the crack the Lockette missed) combined to hold Rawls to a 1 yard gain. Had Graham succeeded, Rawls easily gets 5 yards or more.

Result:

OLine gives Wilson 3+ seconds to wait for Graham's pattern to develop with Graham getting a step. Completion and run scores a 30 yard Seahawk Touchdown. Now lead 20-0

Result:

Right side of the line was able to get some nice push, but wasn't able to separate and create an alley, which cause a bunch up in the lane for Rawls. Due to their push he was able to pick up 3, but without a real hole to do through there were plenty of tacklers to finish the job.

Result:

It's really hard to know which hole he was going to cause Nowak Sweezy and Britt blew the entire interior line our. Coleman took care of the only remaining unblocked defender in the middle and Rawls wasn't touched until he was more than 10 yards down field. All told - 18 yard gain.

Formation: Ace Double Tight Right
Personnel: RB 2 TE 2 WR

Assignments:
34 - Play action
84 - Protection
45 - Protection
89 - Post
15 - Cross

Result:

Play action right with Helfet coming across the formation to give blindside protection gave Wilson a pocket he could vacation in, but he hit an open Kearse for 22 yards, though throw was high and took away any chance of YAC.

Protection was amazing and the entire left side and center of the pocket opened up, so Russell took the opportunity to run for 13 yards.

All right, I've been up way too long - I'll finish this sometime tomorrow, unless someone with the All-22 wants to finish it for me. I gotta get some sleep - even we nut cases need a few hours ;)

Great job with the write ups.

Really confirms what most of us know. Poor blocking execution and some really bad drops caused the team to really stumble along yesterday.

I watched it myself and that was a well called game. It's the Rams and Packers games that are worth watching because there's some real head scratchers during it.

Great breakdown of the game... I appreciate all your effort and work... I felt Bevell called a solid game but like you concluded, execution was the main reason we didn't put up the point so the board...

Bears had a strategy being out manned... They came in to kill the clock at every opportunity and just get the running game going... I don't think it was a bad idea considering the circumstance, take the air out of the game and hope you sneak it out in the 4th quarter somehow... They just simply didn't have the confidence in there QB situation to air it out at all ...

:10: Solid post man! Looks like 2 seconds is all Wilson has before the duct tape holding the Oline together breaks. Maybe Russ just needs to go the Tom Brady route, and just start throwing checkdown passes?

Jimmy can't block for nothing, dude is getting straight murked. Can We work around this somehow? I mean I remember hearing the news on KJR that Jimmy Graham was officially a Seahawk. When I was daydreaming about what kind of impact he would have on this team. It wasn't about him blocking, it was him being this badass redzone threat. Wilson would toss it up there and Graham would come down 2ez Touchdown Seahawks! The opposing defense would have to double cover him, leaving Baldwin or Kearse open. With the defense dropped back in coverage, Beastmode would wreak havok! The possibilities were endless I tells ya! lol

Lets just have Jimmy do what he does best, catch footballs and score points. No more blocking or a limited blocking role.

Its reassuring to know the Bevell IS making adjustments, and the blame is on the players for not executing plays properly. #GoHawks

I don't think we want to give up on Jimmy blocking just yet. If the coaches feel he can do the job, it will make him dramatically more dangerous. If he can be an effective blocker then that means that they have to put some muscle on him which won't be able to cover him at all. So he would be taking up 2 players on every play. That kind of imbalance is exactly what you want to see and one of the reasons why the Pats offense is so good.

The OL, IMO, will get better. It won't ever be great but it will be passable. What people seem to forget is that our OL was pretty terrible to start last year as well. And the year before. Anyone remember that Texans game from 2 years ago where JJ Watt treated our OL like a pylon?

What I would like to see is a more aggressive posture to start against the better defenses. We aren't wearing them down if we are only getting 3 and outs every time.
