Rodriguez - $22.5
Teixiera - $23.1
Ellsbury - $21.8
Sabbathia - $19
McCann - $17
Jeter - $12
Suzuki - $6.5
Soriano - $5
Wells - $2.4
Ryan - $2

That is already $131.3

If they are thinking about Choo & Tanaka, that will climb to at least $165.

That would leave $24 for the rest of the roster.

Unfortunately (for NY), that is impossible.

But,.....they said.........

They will either be liars, or, they will spend a good amount of time backpedaling. Either way, they come out bad on this money business.

Um? Choo and Cano are both 31. And Choo isn't asking for a 10 year contract. Choo had a 143 OPS+ last season, while Cano had a 145.

I love OBP guys, and at YS he would hit like 25 HRs.

Choo is still older lol?

Hiroki Kuroda re-signed with the Yankees.

So we have Sabathia, Kuroda, Nova, and Pineda?? I hope we get Tanaka if posted, which he probably will be.

So we are going down to a few months? What you said is irrelevant, they are both 31 (who cares if Choo is older by like 3 months), and he will sign for a lot less than 10 years.

What he said.

I could care less how old a guy is if it's a 2-3-4-5 year deal

At this time I'd like to thank Scott Boras for getting the Yanks to sign Ellsbury for so much and for so long. I'm not sure how the Yankees messed this up but I for one am glad they did. A few days ago they were better, with Cano gone they aren't even close to the best team in the AL East. I can't name there starting infield or pitching staff.

Addition by subtraction doesn't even apply here.

I don't think cot's is using the AAV

No Cots just gives the base amount earned each year. I used excel to get the average.

Cots does not include any bonuses - which apparently are added to the year received and not divided over the contract...

IMO - the Ellsbury deal is 10X better than the Cano deal.

Next year, Seattle may be smiling. in 2017, NY will be laughing. In 2023, NY will be falling off their chairs...

The Yankees made a organizational stand that they will not give out 10 year contracts to 30+ year old players anymore. They learned that mistake with A-Rod. They gave Cano a very generous offer, 7 years $25 mil per. I don't blame the Yankees for not going to 10 years.

Can't believe yanks fans say they are happy they didn't pay Cano

But want to pay Choo???????

Older and completely depending on OBP. I guess he may increase power in the sandbox

Nobody is saying that we did not want cano, nor that we did not want to overpay for him... But there is overpayment and then there is what seattle gave him... I am very upset that cano will be gone... but that contract was not going to happen...

Do the Janks want Daniel Murphy? Any bullpen arms to deal? Left handed hitter Ike Davis could do some serious damage at New Yankee Stadium.

Anything that makes a good player into an EX-Yankee is fine with me.

For those of you who care, the NY Post is tracking the Yankees 2014 payroll, here it is before Arods bonus money.

$116.38 million

Alex Rodriguez ($27.5 million)
CC Sabathia ($24.4 million)
Mark Teixeira ($22.5 million)
Brian McCann ($17 million)
Derek Jeter ($12.81 million)
Ichiro Suzuki ($6.5 million)
Alfonso Soriano ($4 million)
Brendan Ryan ($1.67 million)
Vernon Wells ($0)

Yankees Payroll Tracker on road to $189M | New York Post
Maybe they could offset some of that payroll with Social Security checks because that team is fucking old!

At least we finally have something to smile about

In 2023 the Yankees will probably still be paying Derek Jeter to stand out there and "play" SS

Actually, this contract could be a good move for the franchise, if two things happen:

1) Obvoiusly, if Cano stays healthy and productive for ten years.

2) If they don't stop here. You can't win with just two stars. They'll need to spend even more if they want to be serious contenders.
