Mariners are screwed, this will come back to bite them. 10 year contracts in a guys 30s never works out. Hes 31 right now, they are paying him top dollar until hes 41. They aren't the Yankees either with seemingly unlimited money. The Yankees were right for not fing themselves into another 10 year contract. Lesson learned with A-Rod.

$2,000,000,000 Tv contract and nintendo money means they will spend mostly how they please. There is a reason they are involved in so many rumors.

I'm very proud of the Yankees for sticking to their guns and not going down that road again, they saved a ton of money and can now build a real contender for 2014. All kinds of possibilities exist now.

I would love it if this was a ruse by Seattle....

Drag out the contract signing for weeks, then back out in the end.

Or, say he failed his physical!

I would sign Shin Soo Choo and Omar Infante. Along with Tanaka.

Yankees will sign Choo and Kuroda I would assume now. Tanaka being available at all is still up in the air.

Well it supposedly went from 9 years, 225 million to 10 years and and 240 so it's 15 million extra for the year. You have to project the contracts out to what players are going to be signing for a few years from now. I always think that the next ridiculous contract is going to be the last (and this deal is kind of ridiculous) but there's going to be a bigger one coming down the pipe in a couple of years. And if Ellsbury is worth the money he signed for then I guess that Cano's a bit of a steal for 3-4 years.

Yeah, this move is going to look pretty awful around 2024. But Jack Z isn't going to be around then so he doesn't have to worry about it. This is what happens when people are spending other peoples money.

I knew the deal would have to be crazy for cano to go anywhere besides the Yankees... even with that i never thought he would get 10 years 24 mil per...

They're working out the fine print on Kuroda.

1 year, $16m.

New York Yankees, Hiroki Kuroda nearing 1-year deal - ESPN New York

As for Choo? Don't they already have Ellsbury, Gardner, Wells, Ichiro, and Soriano?

They need pitching!

They need 1 more SP, they want Tanaka. They need hitting too. I love Choo so I hope they sign him, love his .400 OBP, wanted the yankees to get more OBP guys. Wells and Ichiro both suck now. Soriano can DH. We need to sign Omar Infante to play 2B. If we sign Choo and Infante our lineup would look like this for now.

C-Brian McCann L
1B-Mark Teixeira S
2B-Omar Infante R
SS-Derek Jeter R
3B-Kelly Johnson L
LF-Brett Gardner L
CF-Jacoby Ellsbury L
RF-Shinn Soo Choo L
DH-Alfonso Soriano R

They need to replace Cano's offense, which they will effectively do by adding Choo to go with Kelly Johnson, McCann and Ellsbury.

Then they can either DH Soriano or trade Gardner.

They'll still have money left for pitching, how much they won't know until next month.

Just because I love to keep bringing this up.....

What about that $ 189 mil limit?

and the lineup order would look like this

1. Ellsbury(L)
2. Jeter(R)-unfortunately he has to much of a name not to be a top of the lineup guy
3. Choo(L)(Really hope we get him)
4. tiexiera(S)
5. Soriano(R)
6. McCann(L)
7. kelly Johnson(L)
8. Omar infante(R)- not sure who else is available at 2B so we will use him as the place holder
9. Gardner(L)- speed to start the lineup, speed to end the lineup, double the leadoff hitting...

The lineup looks pretty decent.... although it looks like they need another righty bat... And maybe they can do better than omar infante...

Kelly johnson can play 2B or 3B so maybe we can find a good 3B if it is easier than finding a 2B...

Cano has been durable so far though.
