im not very surprised ... he made some multi year contract signings going down the stretch ... I dont think the moves he made were all that bad these past couple of months ... was it Urkie that told me he's approaching 70 years of age? Maybe they should have a right hand guy being groomed if they dont already

Urkie won't like this....

Correct...

I don't really like it but I don't absolutely hate it either. Murray has been very good at drafting and he seems to have an eye for talent.

I would have been happy with a new guy though because the first part of the Murray era definitely sucked.

Yeah, he's 69 now and he'll be 72 when this contract expires. You've gotta think that this will be his last 3 years and I would guess that he is grooming the current assistant GM (Tim Murray) to be the next GM. He seems to be the obvious successor right now.

I wouldn't be so sure about that. I actually think there's a pretty good chance he sticks around too. If he doesn't then it might just be Dave Cameron (Canada's WJ Coach) who replaces him. The rumors say the coach will be Clouston or Cameron next season.

Cameron currently coaches the St. Michaels Majors in the OHL and that team is owned by Melnyk. That's where the connection is.

I would have rather had a new young guy who could provide direction for the next 10 years, but meh. Hopefully in 3-4 years when this team is ready to truly contend again someone else will be in charge of putting them over the top.

For now let Murray bring in some more good new talent. He's going in the right direction with the rebuild so far.

Is it any wonder why people hate the Pens and think they're fans are a pain in the ass? I just can't figure it out!! :thumb:

It's more because it's 3 years. That's a LONG time for a 69 year old.

I'm surprised by this. The Sens have some good prospects iin the system & probably the 5th pick in the draft. I think Murray has done a good job with the trades he's made this season. Getting Anderson for Elliot was highway robbery. It's going to be interesting to see what he does on draft day.

Guess that "protest" team avatar thingie to the left might just become permanent.

Un-fucking-believable.

"He's totally fucked us for the better part of five years, but he did manage to re-sign one guy, so... THREE MORE YEARS!"

Melnyk is as dumb an owner as there has ever been. How do you have a rebuild overseen by the guy who fucked it all up in the first place? Plus he'll be sompletely senile by the time the contract is up.

Fail.
