One advantage to that is I see Soto to be motivated for when that time comes. It seems when some get that big money and years that they have been wanting the high performance level declines.

Preller's a mad scientist, but can't ignore the fact that he has to make these moves just to have a chance to get a WC and then somehow overtake the Dodgers in the postseason.

The Dodgers are tough to compete with as they have done a great job building their team too but I love that Preller is doing his damndest to try and keep up. If the Rangers aren't in contention, I will wish the Padres success for the short term
