That's 11 years after 1948. Ask Indian fan about that

yah i didnt like that Zimm signing for the Tigers even when it happened--- his peripherals were declining in the NL....typically- a pitcher that is starting to lose some of his stuff- for whatever reason- coming over to the AL is usually not a good recipe.

I mean- Zimm is a solid depth starter and should help- but you are paying him to be a #2 type guy and i dont think he is that.
I didn't have any issue with the Zimmerman deal tbh.

He prolly got overpaid a little, but with nothing of much substance in this years class, they kinda got out ahead of it. If he's healthy he should be a solid second starter. But his ceiling is definitely second starter. He's not going to be competing for any awards or anything.

The Pelfrey deal never made any damn sense. And I'm real glad we got that guarentee Upton will opt out after the season...

I kind of figure that Fulmer and Verlander will fall back a little from their 2016 seasons. Hopefully Zimmermann can pick up that drop-off with a better season of his own. Detroit's got a lot riding on Norris and Boyd, and they have to see what they have in them this coming year. With some money coming off the books after 2017, they have to know if they are going to have to spend a good chunk of it on starting pitching.
Fulmer I think takes a dip.

I was wrong on JV by a lot last year. He looked as good as ever down the stretch.

I'm not saying Verlander falls apart, I just see him drifting back to a year like he had in 2013. ERA around 3.50, with his WHIP closer to 1.3 than 1.0. BTW....which starter is going to get hurt the most by the below average defense in the outfield?

Kinda figured? FUlmer and Verlander fall back. Why??

If healthy, I see no reason Verlander will fall back much. He had the core injury prior to 2014 and the triceps injury prior to 2015. From mid-2015 on, he's been fully healthy and lights-out.

With Fulmer, you've got to look at that ridiculous stretch last year, where he gave up one or zero runs in eight consecutive starts. Take out that stretch, and he's around a 3.50 to 3.75 ERA and 1.25 WHIP -- pretty much what WingyRuss said. I'd take those numbers in 2017.

On Zimmermann ... he was really good, making only one bad start in his first six or seven before the groin injury. Then they brought him back too soon and he had the neck injury. Let's see what happens if he stays healthy.

Norris showed me a lot last season .... when he was on the mound. He seemed to be throwing harder than he did in 2015, and his strikeout rate took a huge jump (6.8 in 2015, 9.2 in 2016). But he's been on the DL three times in two seasons. He needs to show he can stay healthy for a full season.

I tend to agree. Provided he stays healthy, I'd expect him to be damn good in 2017. Well, except for when he faces Cleveland.

All through his career, he's been the Indians' bitch because he has no heart.

Career ERA vs Cleveland: 4.48
Career ERA vs all others: 3.32

Funny you'd mention 1948. That happens to be the year meeeechegan won their last outright Natty in football. Only 1/2 a Natty in the last 69 years for them.:pound:

True, in '48 the Indians had an owner committed to winning. This hasn't been the case for the last 15 years. This off season they actually spent some cash. We'll see if that translates to butts in seats.
I learned today that Hank Greenberg, as your GM, proposed Interleague play, in the 50's.

Never knew that.

The Jake is a great place to watch a game. Should be back to full, or atleast fuller, with a high quality product out there.

I hope so. It is a lot more fun, when it is packed.
