yah ill def give you the Twins after looking at it- though Berrios is gonna be awesome....Royals...i dunno, depends on verlander and sanchez- at times those guys pitched pretty bad last year. i think the Royals is a wash for the most part....
Verlander pitched amazing the last 2 months of the season... he was probably the 3rd or 4th best pitcher in the AL at the end of the year.

If Sanchez is healthy.. The Tigers rotation may end up being one of the best in the MLB. If he is not.. they have to hope Fulmer is ready to go or Greene/Boyd figure it out.

Sanchez, yes. Verlander was pretty bad his first 4 or 5 starts coming off the DL, but that was just rust. He had a sub-3.00 ERA from about mid-July on.

The Royals ace is listed at only 5'11''.. which means he is probably 5'9'' in reality... short starters don't last long.

i have no clue how you can even try and assume Verlander will be really good- he has not been really good since 2012.

His 2013 wasn't good? LOL
I guess his 3.38 ERA last year wasn't good.

It's simple.

He's a blind homer.

Don't expect it to get any better, it always gets worse.

so what? 15 starts? in the last 3 years where he has been really good is your basis that he will have a cy young season-

its solid but its hardly cy young material.

the last two seasons- Verlander struck out 113 guys in 133 innings last year,

and 159 guys in 206 innings the year before- in that year he had a 4.5 era and a whip of 1.40- thats catastrophic for the amount of money he makes.

the year before- his strikeouts were still at about 1 an inning, but his whip had risen to 1.3--- up from 1.06, 0.92 etc....

its clear Verlander's overall performance the last 3 years is not NEAR what it was the previous years before that. He is not that guy anymore. He CAN still be pretty good- but Cy Young award? that waived by by a few years ago if yo uwere paying attention.

i said it wouldn't surprise me if he puts up cy young numbers... because I actually watched him pitch and the last 2 months he most certainly was a top 3 or 4 starter in the AL...

It doesn't matter.. the average 25 man roster has numerous players that are pre arb that make 500k.. if you even have 5 guys... which would be low... in this situation... that is 5 guys for only 2.5mil... Then you take the arb level players that are making only a few mil a season... that makes up the majority of your roster when you combined the two... most MLB teams payrolls are top heavy.. you need to read a little more.

The $138MM on the Tigers' books for 2018 actually only accounts for five players. Verlander, Cabrera, Upton, V Martinez and Zimmermann.

That's two SPs, one 1B, on LF and a DH.

That leaves them 20 roster spots to fill. For your reference, those twenty roster spots are on the Tigers' 2016 books for $67MM. Are you really suggesting that they're going to fill the those spots in 2018 for less than $30MM?

once again simpleton... upton is most likely opting out.. so that 138 is actually 116 mil.

Kuechel won the CY Young last year at 2.48 ERA, 216 ks in 232 innings, 20-8 record, 1.02 WHIP

Corey Kluber won it the year before at 2.44 ERA, 269 ks in 232 innings with a 1.05 whip

what makes you think that Verlander could come close to those seasons the way he has pitched the last 3 years? He has not been on NEAR that level since 2012. If you think a pitcher like Verlander that relies on the strikeout- can all of a sudden go 4 years between cy young seasons WHILE his strikeout rate precipitously declines- then i gotta say- good luck with that.
