just a few cost controlled players the tigers have for the next 3-5 years.
you realize that machado is a backup SS that probably wont see the light of day with IGlesias around- and that Verhagen is a relief pitcher-- and fullmer has never played in the majors all though out of all the other ones this guy should have some potential to be a between a #2 and #3 starter someday down the road a few years--- I mean, am i mistaken in my belief that most ratings publications have the Tigers farm system as one of the worst in the league?

i saw a list that had Fullmer as the Tigers #1 prospect- and he was not even a top100 prospect in the majors.

who cares.. they will take roster spots on the cheap.. which is what the entire point was... cost effective players.

tigers farm system was rated as one of the worst in the majors before they added the guys they added.. and many of the guys like boyd and norris are past being qualified as a prospect.. but are still very young

Norris had an era slightly under 4.00 and a k rate that was not exactly ove the top impressive for a young guy with that kind of arm. If this guy becomes Danny Salazar or Carlos Carrasco you will be lucky.

Not enough of an MLB resume to judge Norris, good or bad. But if you must, his 1.7 walk rate and 1.009 WHIP last year were damn solid for a rookie. And his last full season in the minors (2014) he had a strikeout rate of 11.8/9.

The entire Ilitch Holdings company is built around using the Tigers and Red Wings to not only market Little Caesars (the third largest pizza chain in the world) but to draw fans into the area where their casino is. I am sure they would love to make a profit.. but when it comes down to it.. they could probably lose 50 mil a yr + and make it all back and then some just off what they make off the Red Wings and concessions sales that are not included in team revenue because Little Caesars rev don't count towards the Tigers rev.

The real money makers for Ilitch holdings are little caesars and the motor city casino (technically not a part of ilitch holdings.. but owned by his wife because of league rules)

You think Castellanos is the answer at 3rd long term? I have no clue how you could come to that conclusion at this point in his career.

At this point in his career, Castellanos is 23 and has two full seasons of MLB experience under his belt. Many players haven't made it out of the minors yet at that age. His seasons at the plate have been underwhelming, though he has shown some power (15 HR last year). The big issue is that he needs to start hitting RH pitching better. Ridiculous splits last season: .230 vs. RHPs, .351 vs. LHPs.

He's below average defensively, but most of that is range-related. He makes most routine plays and has an above-average arm. I think Vice said this on the Tiger board, and I agree: When V-mart's career is done, you could very well see Cabrera DH and Castellanos move over to 1B.

you guys did do a good job to get Fullmer and Norris from Cespedes and Price's contracts that were up anyway- not that i see either being a #1- but chances are you will get a lot of innings and some above average performance out of them at SOME point- though young pitchers get injured all the time.

I remember the deals the Indians made for Lee and Sabathia......LaPorta was the main name for Sabathia- some guy named Michael Brantley was the second guy....and for Lee- I forget the name of the first guy- Knapp? first round pick with big time potential- but his arm fell apart-- the 2nd guy in that deal- Carlos Carrasco- ended up being the better prospect......

Tigers def have a lot of money- but i dont even think Zimmerman and Upton are that GREAT of signins for the money and years- its always a big risk moving from NL to AL for a pitcher and Zimmerman needs to be better than just an era of between 3.8 and 4.0 to justify that contract....and something scares me about Upton in that he has bounced around as much as he has- all though- if those were homers in SD- they WILL be homers in Detroit...i dunno...we shall see..

for a while there Verlander looked like an unmitigated disaster- but his lsat couple months should take tigers fans blood pressure down a little.....when Verlander and Cabrera are making a combined 60 million when they are old and done- that wont help much.

You do understand that Upton has an opt out after 2 years that he is almost guaranteed to take right...

after 2016... Verlander only has 3 more years left on his contract.. really not that concerned about it at all. His or Miggy's contract. I think Miggy could hit .300 when he is 50.

Norris was rated the #17 prospect overall and #3 among LHPs before the start of the 2015 season. And Fulmer at #53. Really to get those two guys, and Matt Boyd, for rent-a-players (Price and Cespedes) was pretty shrewd on Dombrowski's part.
You forget Labourt, who they also got from the Blue Jays and was their #10 over all prospect and pitched in the futures game. He has shit numbers as a starter.. but as a reliever has a HUGE fastball and slider.

Tigers also got Luis Cessa from the Mets for Cespedes who they flipped to the Yankees for Justin Wilson.. a very underrated young bullpen arm.

i dont htink he is guaranteed to take that thing at all... he has definitely had a couple years in his career where taking that money would have been advisable to opting out- and who knows- the guy is an "old" 28 since hes been playing forever. I think its more likely than not he opts out- i a gree with you there- but i think that is far from a foregone conclusion- especially if he gets injured or has a down year or two or has a year like he did once or twice prior in his career....

The amount of talent the Tigers got last year at the trade deadline went a long way to building depth at the top end of the minors and MLB level.

He is most Certainly going to take it. He will only be 30 and unless he has injury issues.. which he never has.. there is no way he won't opt out to add more years. There is probably a better than 90% chance he opts out.
