as for cost controlled cheap talent- yes Detroit has Norris....Iglesias...and im not sure when JD Mart. is eligible for free agency but i think it would be at least a couple years....other than that... i fail to see any near-high-end cost controlled young talent. Is Castellanos any good? Can Rondon ever get his head on straight?

  • Fulmer
  • Castellanos
  • Iglesias
  • Machado
  • Norris
  • McCann
  • verhagen
  • rondon
just a few cost controlled players the tigers have for the next 3-5 years.

Like I said.. The Tigers future payroll obligations are not as big a deal as you may think.

Also for @SlinkyRedfoot ... the 138 mil number for the tigers in 2018 included Upton.. who is almost GUARANTEED to opt out after 2017 reducing that number by another 22 mil.

yah...how many are good? or have done anything yet in the majors? Rondon looks like a nut...Norris has potential without a doubt but that doesnt guarantee much. Castellanos was .255/303 obp....not exactly miggys replacement....

how many of those guys are likely to be average-to-above average major leaguers? I think only iglesias and mybe norris are guys that i would bet have a better than even chance....but we shal lsee...

lol,

Vice you trashed the Royals, well for ever. You said they wouldn't go to the post season with the team they had, ran by the front office they had with pages and pages of idiotic statements.

Went to WS in 2014

Then you said the team couldn't win the WS with the team they had and the shitty rotation, bad signing of Morales and Rios as FA's and pages and pages of idiotic statements.

They won the World Series in 2015.

Another year and your have pages and pages of idiotic statements.

Let's have some fun with some past years "idiotic" statements.

My point is that Cabrera, Verlander and Martinez are all more likely to hit the DL than Hosmer or Gordon.

Legitimate point, and it is every Tiger fan's biggest concern. Add in Anibal Sanchez, a key part of the rotation when healthy, but he hasn't been for two seasons. And we have a closer in his mid-30s. If healthy, the Tigers have a very good shot to return to the top of the ALC, but good health is definitely not a gimmie.

im just looking at their roster and their past history of player development.

Iglesias looks like he could be good- he has a very solid glove- and will hit about 300 probably- probably a pretty empty 300 but thats not bad for a ss

Norris had an era slightly under 4.00 and a k rate that was not exactly ove the top impressive for a young guy with that kind of arm. If this guy becomes Danny Salazar or Carlos Carrasco you will be lucky.

You think Castellanos is the anwer at 3rd long term? I have no clue how you could come to that conclusion at this point in his career.

Rondon was a nut case that cant keep his head on straight. Guys with great arms and 2 cent heads are a dime a dozen in the major leagues.

just be realistic- if even 1/3 of those guys are with the team 3-4 years from now that will be a success

Would you like to take me up on the 1k bet if you are so sure of your royals?

It was McCann's ROOKIE SEASON for Chrissakes! Do you see no room for improvement with the bat?

It's certainly possible, but his offensive numbers in the minors are underwhelming, so I'm not sure I'd expect too much improvement. We'll have to wait and see.

Vice arguing Rick Porcello is better than Chris Archer

Archer has how many starts? You are saying he is better than porcello.. who is the same age... yet you are judging that off 12 starts in 2013.... I know its not off the 4 starts from last year where he was no better than porcello was... Anyone saying Archer has more potential than Porcello is so short sighted its not even funny... Porcello was pitching as a 5th starter in the majors when Archer was crapping his pants in the minors.. yet they are two months apart in age.

and now wants to talk about Norris with 13 mlb starts

you do realize the entire ilitch empire is built around the success of the tigers and redwings... they can lose 40 mil on the tigers and make it up on what they bring in from the redwings and write the rest off as marketing for little caesars and the motor city casino....

If people aren't coming to comerica park.. the ilitches lose a lot more money that what they lose by spending on the tigers.

another view of Vice genius

KC scouts and developmental coaches are the worst in the league.. flat out.. no excuse for teams like the rangers or red sox to develop more mlb talent than the royals.. when they pick later in the rounds in drafts... Teams like the a's and rays prove its not about money... the royal are just poorly run. Your team does not have the same talent level as a team like the tigers or rays or red sox... its clear to the average eye... You are on a nice run.. but what happens when its over.. did you think about next year? Did you think about how you have a rotation that will lose its top performer almost certainly.. and even if the royals kept him around.. he is over 30.. and will want a long term contract.. good luck with that... I laugh at dayton moore.. he is the worst gm in sports.. he has not direction... i cant see his plan at all.. the rotation has no future.. guthrie is almost 35... shields is going to be a 32 yr old free agent after next yr... santana is a 30 yr old free agent this year.. and who replaces these guys? There are not 3 mlb caliber starters in the royals system ready to take over.. and we all know you are not getting free agents... back to reality... its coming soon.

people just don't understand what the tigers are to mike ilitch and the ilitch empire... its nothing more than high priced marketing for their other more profitable ventures like their casino. as soon as you figure that out.. you will understand why they will always spend.
