Recent deals leave 49ers $2.2 million under cap | CSN Bay Area

The 49ers did not award any signing bonus money to either Kassim Osgood, a three-time Pro Bowl player, or Raymond Ventrone, a source told CSNBayArea.com on Saturday.

---------------

Ventrone's deal, announced as a one-year contract, was actually a two-year, $1.735 million contract, a source said. He must make the team to receive any of the money. Osgood, who enters his 11th season in the NFL, signed a one-year deal for the veteran minimum salary of $940,000. He will count just $555,000 against the salary cap.

Matt Maiocco:

When I asked Jim Harbaugh whether he expects WR Mario Manningham to be ready for regular season, 49ers' Jim Harbaugh said, "At some point."

Justin Smith extension lowered his 2013 cap hit and now we have $6,423,720.00 in cap space.

Interestingly, Smith negotiated this deal without an agent. His $7.5 million 2013 base salary was converted into a $6.56 million signing bonus, a $940,000 base salary with a $500,000 workout bonus, and a $100,000 roster bonus.

The neat thing is that he didn't even really take a paycut this year, although he is certainly playing for less than he could get as a FA in 2014 or 2015.

4. TE Konrad Reuland: The arrival of Kellen Winslow Jr. could jeopardize Reuland's spot on the roster. They're basically the same type of player -- pass-catching tight ends. Reuland's fate could be tied to Winslow's health; a chronic knee condition makes it 50-50 that the former Pro Bowler lasts through training camp.

This gives us money to play with if anyone gets cut. I still think we should go after Lloyd. We need another WR. If Boldin goes down we are in Big trouble

Neat idea, but I think they messed it up by including players from other positions in some categories. For instance, defensive players in the most expensive TDs?? QBs in the most expensive receptions?? Neither of those positions get paid to do what they were included in... QBs in rushing yards?

I agree. Also think about how our O would look when Crabs came back. Crabs is a good slot WR so I would play in there on certain plays. Boldin and Lloyd on the outside with Crabs in the slot and VD on the opposite side with Kaep in shotgun and James next to him. That would be a tough O for any team to stop.

I saw that because Terrell Brown skipped voluntary workouts in Santa Clara his salary decreased $2 million, strange decision. Although the article also quoted him saying that it was up to his agent if he would holdout this year for a new contract. Maybe that is why he took a $2 million hit by working out in Texas instead of Santa Clara?
