Maybe Colt McCoy is a much better QB than any QB that would have been available in the 7th round? The 5th and 6th round picks are 8 picks apart so those are a wash.

I like the move, given Harbaugh's track record with QBs.

I think so. He's probably a better PLAYER than anyone the Niners would have picked in the 7th round.

I never liked McCoy as a QB prospect. Not even a little. But I think he's at least better than Scott Tolzien.

I still wish the Niners could get their hands on Tyler Bray, but at least now they have someone wth starting experience to be able to fill in a couple of games if Kaep goes down (that is, if he even makes the roster).

Nnamdi Asomugha chooses #49ers and has agreed to terms, per sources. He had also considered #Saints. #NnamdiWatch

CB Nnamdi Asomugha is signing a 1-yr deal with 49ers worth $1.35 million in base salary, but get this: He didn't want ANY guaranteed money.

Let's hope he plays like he did three years ago and is motivated

This is prob a dumb question, so that means $1.35 M counts against the cap?

49ers CB Carlos Rogers' $5.5 million base salary became fully guaranteed when he was kept on San Francisco's roster through April 1.
The fact first appeared on the SB Nation blog Niners Nation and has since been confirmed by Joel Corry of the National Football Post. The signing of Nnamdi Asomugha is no threat to Rogers' roster spot. He'll also collect $350,000 in offseason bonuses. Rogers turns 32 in July. His play has slipped off a career year in 2011, but Rogers remains a solid and versatile cover corner.

Meaning of Asomugha's contract
April, 3, 2013 7:46AM ET
By Tom Carpenter | ESPN.com

The San Francisco 49ers agreed to terms with free-agent cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha on Tuesday. He is expected to sign the deal on Wednesday. The contract has no guaranteed money. Asomugha is due to earn a base package of $1.35 million with salary and bonuses, and could make an additional $1.65 million in incentives for playing time, awards such as the Pro Bowl and reaching the playoffs.

His name still carries a lot of weight based on what he did when he was younger. However, after a couple of rough seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles, he has much to prove, and the way the Niners structured his contract reflects that:

Mike Sando
Nnamdi Asomugha must earn it with 49ers

"Asomugha, a Pro Bowl choice with Oakland from 2008 through 2010, must play well during the 2013 season to restore his reputation as a cornerback worth starter's money. More immediately, he must show well in training camp to earn a roster spot. ... Asomugha, 31, has an impressive pedigree despite two down seasons with Philadelphia. He was once considered among the very best corners in the game. He stands 6-foot-2 and has the potential to add another dimension to the 49ers' secondary. Asomugha could shake up the depth chart and even win a starting job in San Francisco. But the money he's getting from San Francisco says the 49ers aren't so sure. It says Asomugha must earn his standing on the team. This is a no-risk deal for the 49ers. They can't lose by signing Asomugha to such a reasonable contract, but they have not won on the deal, at least not yet."

49ers sign cornerback Asomugha - San Francisco Chronicle

It's possible that he won't be coming alone. His good friend and former Raiders and Packers safety Charles Woodson is still a free agent after visiting the 49ers last month, and the two would love to play together again.

"It's definitely still in play," the source said.
