Snelll would be a key acquisition but also a difficult one. He will get multiple offers and many from division leaders and he will get as much money as he asks for. IMHO for him to want to stay here we need to sell him next the next few years and show him a clear path tp the playoffs. I also think that Ray staying with us is a great selling point. The rotation would be elite. I'm guessing 4 years at 130M will be his asking price.
Winning championships involves many difficult ingredients, this is a move we need to make, the elite rotation is how we did it before and we have a chance for that again

This seems like the best thread for a Fitz projection. Taking his 2024 stats projected over a full year:

WAR — 7.71
AB 500
H 160
HR 40
BA .313
R 106
RBI 74
SB 34
OBP .369
SLG .626
OPS .995
OPS+ 180

If he approaches anything like this, we’ve found two all star position players this year.

That would be an amazing year but I get the feeling that 2025 will look not nearly as good. I expect his numbers to be closer to an .825 OPS with about 15 home runs. I liked him in the minors but I think he is hitting over his abilities right now. Still I expect him to be a regular next year and a productive one at that.

Yeah that's really optimistic, pitchers will adjust and he has to adjust back. Casey Schmitt seemed like a masher too at first.

That said, he appears to be legit and a possible all star, better than Schmitt

I agree that Fitz will regress. He isn’t THIS player. That would just be crazy.

BUT…

Comparing him to Chasey, i don’t think is fair. Chasey had one hot week, then has been garbage (with the bat) ever since. Fitz has been MVP-good for about 1/3 of a season. That doesn’t mean he is destined for the Hall, but it is a stronger indication of future success than 1 week.

I still have hope for Schmitt but it would be nice if he started hitting more soon

I do too. I was very excited for him as he was making his way up. But until he learns to not swing at the pitch that bounces 3 times before it reaches the plate, he be nothing more than a util2.

Maybe he watches too much cricket?

I think 15 HR is too low. The league will adjust to him and he'll have to adjust back, but the power is real. Over a decent sample size. I'd guess more like 25 HR, which would be great.

We seem to have found two legit starting position players this year: Ramos and Fitz. In my mind, that's a pretty productive year. Get Lee back next year, Ray opts in, I think we'll be OK.

Schmitt did it over a much smaller sample size, got adjusted to, and has yet to adjust back. I don't think he's a good comp (although I really hope he breaks out as well).

Just trying to undersell him in my mind, keep me grounded. You know, just in case he isn't really Nick Lowery in disguise.

Thing about Nick is that when he IS in disguise, you'd never know it.

Quick thought on the 1b and 2b "holes." Maybe LWJ/Canha/Flores can hold 1b down for one year, and in 2026 Eldridge is ready.

For 2b, what if Arteaga comes up and moves Fitz there? Aeverson by all accounts is a natural SS, great defender with some pop. He will whiff a lot but might also put up 20 bombs/20 SB. I could see him hitting 7-8 and doing well there.

Eldridge MAY be ready by ‘26, but I still think that is aggressive. I think Lucky should be in the mix for both 1B and 2B. Arteaga is a real option, though. Since he has been hurt this year, he has fallen off my radar, but that is my own laziness. He is still young and still a legit prospect. Though Reckley is probably the REAL SS/2B prospect we need to keep an eye on. But he won’t be ready until ‘27 or ‘28.

Reckley has been playing mainly 2nd base this year so it is fair to wonder if the Giants don’t see him as a shortstop long term

That’s fine. We have Fitz now and Lucky, Schmitt and Wisely offering depth, with Arteaga, Walker and Level as SUPER young SSs who could develop into something in the next 4 years or so (as well as future drafts).
