As much as I've expressed concern about Snell, signing him would not mean losing any draft picks. And I have to admit he is one of the best of the starting pitchers on the free agent market. However, my concerns about whether he found his tempo long term is valid but the bigger issue is whether or not the team and/or Snell want him in a Giants' uniform in 2025 and beyond. If there really is bad blood between the two then it does not matter the other concerns.

And I'm not very excited about Kim. The surgery puts a big question mark on how good he will be moving forward defensively. He could stay just as good or he could slip a couple of notches. It is his defense that gives him value so I think signing him is not what the Giants need if they are going to try to build a contender for 2025.
Sounds like Kim won’t even be ready for the start of the 2025 season. Posey must pass on Kim.

Kim is fine but not going to move the needle (I do agree with your take on who we get)

I don’t care what ace we get but if we don’t get that 3rd ace to give us the only possible way to compete then Posey failed. Don’t care if it’s Burnes or Snell or if another true ace is gettable, we have to get one.
From Jim Bowden this morning, 2025 predictions for FA contracts:

Burnes 7 years 247M
Fried 6/174
Snell 3/105
Adames 6/150
Flaherty 3/68
Profar 3/44
Kim 1/10

If we can get Snell for 3/105 I'd be on board. Kim's estimate seems about right; if we think he'll be healthy he's the get. Profar is interesting.

I believe Kim will have a QO attached to him from the Pads.

I prefer to grow from what we have. Meaning no big signing for the outfield. No Alonso at first, no Adames at SS and no new 2nd baseman( we gave Fitz). I expect a Kim signing even though with shoulder surgery not so sure it will be a good idea (major gamble). I’m ok with getting top tier pitching though. But I expect Posey in his first year he will go big, so I will forgive him now instead of later.
I doubt the Pads will give Kim a QO...he'd take it in a heartbeat.

If those are real numbers, I would be ecstatic with Kim and Snell. I would be OK going over BOTH of this estimates, actually.

That’s not much of a “get” dude. Need actual good players especially an ace. 3/105 is crazy cheap for Snell

Not given his inability to stay healthy. In only 2/9 seasons has he made 30 starts.

Of course, he won the CY in those two seasons.

It'll be interesting. Bowden isn't an idiot.

Seeing how he was dealing once he had proper ramping up it’s a risk I’d gladly take. Teams in our situation have to take some gambles.

I don't disagree, just pointing out the downside risk is real.

Some news on potential Giants targets…

Kim declined his portion of a mutual option with the Padres, making him a FA.
Bellinger activated his player option with the Cubs, removing him from the FA market.
Rizzo had his team option denied by the Yankees, making him a FA.

Padres could still offer Kim a QO but I have my doubts that happens.

If the Giants were to not acquire any players this offseason, this is how I'd see the 26 man roster look on Opening Day:

Starting Rotation - Logan Webb, Robbie Ray, Jordan Hicks, Kyle Harrison, one of Hayden Birdsong, Mason Black, Landen Roupp or Keaton Winn
Bullpen - Ryan Walker, Tyler Rogers, Camilo Doval, Taylor Rogers, Randy Rodriguez, Erik Miller, Sean Hjelle and one of Tristan Beck, Spencer Bivens, Trevor McDonald or Austin Warren
Catchers - Patrick Bailey, Tom Murphy
Infielders - Wilmer Flores, LaMonte Wade, Casey Schmitt, Brett Wisely, Tyler Fitzgerald, Matt Chapman
Outfielders - Heliot Ramos, Jung Hoo Lee, Mike Yastrzemski, and two of Jerar Encarnacion, Marco Luciano, Luis Matos or Grant McCray

Not bad not great. Looks like around .500 roster. There is a fair chance of improvement for full season with Heliot and Fitz being full time, improving the offense. With health and above average seasons from about 4 or 5 players could provide another 10 wins and maybe wild card. Who Knows acquiring another Heliot level of bat could add a few more wins. The Pitching is good with a breakout from Harrison or Birdsong it could be very good just short of the best. Bullpens are year to year unless you have proven arms that deliver most every year.

I pretty much agree, I think Posey will get extra bodies to make sure we hit the playoffs.

Not sure what Flowers offers, certainly not the future. If competent I'd rather see his position for getting so prospects some ABs, maybe one of the left off the roster outfielders....

No identified DH? If a bat is available it seems like a landing spot and nuke one of the IFs

Dude.

Is it really necisarily to make Farhan cry?

He is gone. Isn’t that enough?

Didn't think about the DH, but I'd see Flores rotating between 1st and DH, sharing time in the latter spot with whichever outfielder isn't starting.

But I think we all know that this isn't going to be the OP roster. It will change.
