Gold Glove finalists announced, Giants with three
Bailey
Chapman
Yaz
I am surprised that Yaz got the nom, but I do believe it was well deserved. I have been stumping for this nom all season.

I can’t argue against any of those. And we should win two of them (Bailey and Chappy).

Burnes or Snell would be a part of the solution but not the entire answer. Look at the current rosters of the teams currently left in the playoffs. Interesting. They all have elite openers (like Snell and Burnes) but they also have top of the line relievers. ALL of them have major offenses. If your pitching faulters these offenses will kill you. The Phlies struggled with their relievers and the Mets took advantage.

The offenses are where I think our biggest issue will be. ALL of these teams have 4 guys with 20 or more homers. Most have at least 2 with 30 or more. Some have 50 plus guys. If your pitching struggles or your defenses faulter you're going to have these guys coming to the plate with men on base. Quite a few EWSs in these play offs.

Snell or Burnes will surely help ... but without some additional offense we will struggle again in 2025.

If the Giants sign two players who have rejected a qualifying offer this offseason, they will lose their 2nd round, 3rd round, 4th round and 5th round picks in the 2025 Amateur Draft.

This scenario would play out if the Giants sign Burnes and Adames, as both are likely to be given QOs by their current teams and will very likely reject them.

So they won’t have the opportunity to whiff on 4 more high picks?

Well, there is new leadership. Maybe the scouting department gets better?
Not a good look for a new regime to start so light on building the farm but I guess if they think this team is really that close to contention, then they will go all in.

News flash…

They aren’t. Just look at the games played over the last week. We don’t have that kind of star power.

Then let's hope the people who are supposed to be experts see that and don't miss on stocking the farm instead of trying to make headline grabs.

This one statement pretty well sums up what our core issue is moving forward ... .. we seem to have some pieces of a decent core team ... but we aren't there yet.
Watched a few of the playoff games to this point and you start to see exactly what makes up a real good playoff caliber team. They have both pitching and offense. Pitching is deep in both starters and relief. Starters are not enough. You have ro have a relief staff to finish the game out. Doesn't mater if you open with 6 shutout innings and you can't shut them down for the last three.
The offenses for these these teams are very very potent. They all have the ability to put runs on the board ... very quickly. If your pitching faulters these teams will score ... usually in bunches. Hate to say it but the Doggies and the Spanks are both good models of what a solid playoff team has to have.
My only real surprise in the 2024 season was that the Padres stayed with them (Doggies) for most of the season.

Exactly. I’d much rather have Adames and Burnes than draft picks to screw up.

We ain't getting Adames. It's going to be Kim.

Burnes is possible. I wanted him last year
Kim is fine but not going to move the needle (I do agree with your take on who we get)

I don’t care what ace we get but if we don’t get that 3rd ace to give us the only possible way to compete then Posey failed. Don’t care if it’s Burnes or Snell or if another true ace is gettable, we have to get one.

I believe Kim will have a QO attached to him from the Pads.

I prefer to grow from what we have. Meaning no big signing for the outfield. No Alonso at first, no Adames at SS and no new 2nd baseman( we gave Fitz). I expect a Kim signing even though with shoulder surgery not so sure it will be a good idea (major gamble). I’m ok with getting top tier pitching though. But I expect Posey in his first year he will go big, so I will forgive him now instead of later.

As much as I've expressed concern about Snell, signing him would not mean losing any draft picks. And I have to admit he is one of the best of the starting pitchers on the free agent market. However, my concerns about whether he found his tempo long term is valid but the bigger issue is whether or not the team and/or Snell want him in a Giants' uniform in 2025 and beyond. If there really is bad blood between the two then it does not matter the other concerns.

And I'm not very excited about Kim. The surgery puts a big question mark on how good he will be moving forward defensively. He could stay just as good or he could slip a couple of notches. It is his defense that gives him value so I think signing him is not what the Giants need if they are going to try to build a contender for 2025.
