Rooker has played for 5 teams in 5 years. He did nothing with MN, KC, or SD, but has hit 30 and 38 HR with the A's. He's been mostly a DH with Oakland, er, Sacramento, er Lost Wages. This seems a heavy price to pay for him. He is arb eligible in 2025 and under team control until 2028. Might be worth a swing, but not at this price. I have hopes for the two pitchers and McCray. The JimmyJacking with Luci is awful. He may prosper with the A's who would allow him to play.
I could see MAYBE Lucky and ONE of the other 3. We gotta give to get. But if he is only a DH, than I would much prefer we look elsewhere.

Dude Lucky is a bust and we gotta deal him before it’s obvious to everyone. Just feels trending that way. Prospects are prospects we can win now.
I
But as I said As will not be dealing Rooker for anything unless maybe a godfather offer and that’s a lot more than Luciano plus Whis or Black or whatever.

Tyler Rogers finished with a sub-3 ERA (2.82 ERA) for the 1st time since 2021 while leading the NL with 77 appearances. He's due for a raise from his $3.2M salary in 2024. The Giants have some decisions to make this offseason, but tendering Rogers a contract is an easy one.

Casey Schmitt is finishing the year on a positive note. He’s now up to a .749 OPS after his double in the 7th inning and has probably earned himself a few at-bats for 2025.

Doval does not, but he has enough promise that he will still get it.

Those 4 are all no-brainers.
Camilo was an all star two years ago; he had an awful year in 2024 but prior was about 40% better than league average. He's 26. When right, he's worth 1.5 - 2.0 WAR. He's not injured.

$4.6M? No brainer to bring him back.

When the offseason officially begins for the Giants, they will need to bring back 4 players from the 60-day IL. Those include:

-Keaton Winn
-Tom Murphy
-Wilmer Flores
-Jung Hoo Lee

It bears mentioning that Flores has a mutual option for 2025. The 1st part of a $3.5M player option, which I'd say there is a pretty good chance he exercises. Interestingly, Flores has attained 10-and-5 rights, meaning that he can veto any trade. Of course, the Giants could just decide to cut ties instead.

If my numbers are right though, they have four players hitting free agency (Conforto, Snell, Casali, Canha) so they wouldn't have to take anyone off the 40-man roster to bring the guys on the 60-day IL back.

I updated the current roster for the off season a few days ago. It has everything spelled out.

Estimates from MLBTR

Not certain why Warren isn’t listed.
Per Steve Adams:
Steve Adams
October 2, 2024
Warren finished out the season with 2.127 years of service (by my count). There’s a decent chance that’ll qualify him, and he’d be a late addition to the list in that instance, as Matt alluded to in the intro:
“Also, there is not yet an established Super Two cutoff, which delineates which players with between two and three years of service qualify for early arbitration. That could lead to a few late entrants being added to the list.”
Given his limited workload in the majors — much of that service time was accrued on the injured list — he’ll probably be projected south of $1MM if he does reach S2 status.

This guarantees we will get him AND that we will grossly overpay for him.

I really hope Posey thinks this possibility carefully, surgery on a throwing arm may not be such a good thing.
I really think he is overrated. I get that he has a good glove but he seems like a slightly better hitting version of Nick Ahmed. And with the uncertainty over surgery, who knows if he even performs as that level. The cost will be much higher, so you are probably right cal.

I was all for him, figuring he could cover a hole and being best buddies with Lee thinking it might inspire them both. But now with surgery I’m going to advise Posey not to.

Wow.

If healthy --

Ahmed: 2024 OPS+ 62; career OPS+ 74. Aka a shitty hitter
Kim: 2024 OPS+ 96; career OPS+ 99. Aka a league average hitter.

The only thing that would make Kim a "slightly" better hitting version of Ahmed would be his arm not being healed.

They are leagues apart as hitters.

Just wow.

You know what's not wow? The thought that the big bat we add is just Kim. Need a little more than that.
