I agree, I just don't know what to expect from the Giants since they value versatility so much. I wouldn't be surprised if he even gets some playing time at 2nd and/or the outfield.
Unfortunately, you are probably right.

I think positional flexibility is useful, but more so for the lower-end players. I have (unreasonably) higher expectations for Schmitt, though, so I would rather see him developed as a true 3B/SS/whatever.

It felt like the Giants bullpen began to stabilize in the 2nd half of last year and the monthly breakdown supports it:
Mar/Apr - 2.22 ERA
May - 6.26 ERA
Jun - 3.30 ERA
Jul - 5.69 ERA
Aug - 3.46 ERA
Sep/Oct - 3.70 ERA

Does it? August and Sept/Oct were better than July but Mar/April and June were better than those two months. It certainly seemed like it got better in the 2nd half but this makes me wonder if that was really the case.

Giants wRC+ projections (using ATC, which averages other projection systems and is consistently one of the most accurate):
Haniger: 120
Joc: 119
Conforto: 118
Davis: 117
Slater: 113
Flores: 109
Yaz: 108
Wade: 107
Villar: 106
Estrada: 105
Craw: 104
Sabol: 95
Bart: 87
Pérez: 79

Basically means that on any given night, they'd have only one (projected) below-average hitter in the lineup, and it'd be the catcher (which is normal; see below).

League wRC+ by position in 2022:

C: 89
1B: 107
2B: 96
3B: 102
SS: 94
LF: 100
CF: 96
RF: 101
DH: 107

Is there a stat that normalizes wRC+ or OPS by position?

For example, if Bart's wRC+ is 87, and 89 is the average for all catchers, then Bart's measure would be 87/89 = 98.

In wonderful news for fans so concerned about his 2022 year of torment, Duane Kuiper will work more Giants road games while retaining his partnership with Mike Krukow, who will play the analyst’s role from a studio in S.F., @Bruce_Jenkins1 writes.

Interesting that they think Sabol would be close to league average before he played a game in the big leagues. Seems like, if true, the Pirates were really dumb not to protect him.

Both those guys are in really bad shape, and I don’t expect them to be doing games for much longer (a few more years, probably).

I really hope they get into the Hall (as a pair) before we lose one of them.

I think you just did it.

BTW, off topic, the Humm Baby turned 93 today.
Well, thank you for that, but I was hoping that someone would do that FOR me for all the players. I only want a 10% royalty on its use, plus a flat one-time $10k development fee.

Don't make me start missing Kuiper's home run calls already.

With Kuiper having such a great home run call, it's amusing that Krukow the Pitcher has more career HRs (5) than Kuiper the 2B (1).

He had an insanely impressive rookie campaign with the bat. While I have concerns with his glove, imho, he SHOULD go into ’23 with squatters rights.
Free and open competition is a very good thing. The best thing.

Why the defensive concern? Albeit a SSS, he did have a 0.2 dWAR in only 1/3 of a season. That's enough time to spot any trends.
