I have no idea if they knew he was damaged goods. The Giants tend to pick up the tab on a LOT of players who are damaged, so the track record does not suggest that they would play fast and loose against a players health concerns. Especially for one who was so young and who had looked so good in limited MLB time with the club.Such a strange story. He was a relatively out of nowhere 40 man add and was both young and inexperienced. Yet the Giants move him, essentially, from short A ball to AAA and quickly to the big leagues thereafter. Then they jettison him while still young. Did they know that there was something wrong? I don't know. I think that they would have violated rules on handling injured players if they knew he was injured and dfa'd him with the intent to pass him through waivers.
I hope that he bounces back next year and gets a decent career out of his arm.
