Its about time to create a new thread since spring training has begun. I thought I'd kick it off by listing former Giants (those who've played with the big league club, the minor leagues or have made an appearance on the 40 man roster) currently on other 40 man rosters and NRI lists (I'm pretty sure I've missed a couple of names).

As of today, there are 58 major league free agents still on the market. Out of those 58, 4 are former Giants - Jose Alvarez, Sergio Romo, Will Smith and Donovan Solano.

The only one of those I am NOT surprised is still available is Romo. The other 3 seem to still have at least enough for a flier, if not a solid slot, expected to contribute.

Not too surprised on Alvarez. Didn't he have TJ surgery last year? But other guys in similar situations (see Wilson, Justin) have gotten 1 year deals with an option or a straight 2 year deal.

But yeah, it is really weird that both Smith and Solano are still available on the market. Lesser players have been plucked from the free agent marked with guaranteed spots on 40 man rosters.

Scratch Austin Gomber from my original list. He was never a part of the Giants' org. I had him mistaken with Ashton Goudeau.

It took a bit to remember he was briefly part of the org last year. This churn gets old. Glad its settled down a bit this last offseason.

Well after he looked like a bust from the draft he had a couple of good seasons to make his pick not a bad one.
