He was on our radar, but not no more. $17.5mm for one year. Yikes!:

HANIGER!!!! 3/43.5mm

"Seattle elected not to issue Haniger a qualifying offer, so the Giants won’t forfeit any draft compensation to bring him aboard."

Sorry, didn't see the previous page on Bellinger/Haniger.

Looking more likely that the only glove that Jocko will ever wear again is a batting glove.

Let's say the Haniger deal is spread evenly across 3 years (14.5m per year) and Judge signs a 9 year, 360m deal and it too is spread evenly (40m per year). That leaves the Giants with about 41.5m left before hitting the luxury tax.

If tzill's source is correct, and Correa wants to be a Giant, and, say, he decides he'll be a nice guy and only ask for 20m more over 11 years than what Turner got, that means the Giants would have about 12.5m left under the cap.
The Haniger deal escalates, it's not evenly spread out. I think it counts about $11M against the threshold this year.

Too much money for a below average hitter.
Tell me you don't know anything about Haniger without saying "who is that guy?"

He's a good hitter, not much of a platoon split so he can play every day.

The knock is health, hence the price. If healthy, he's a 4-6 WAR player.

Be better. Read up.

If only someone had predicted that when he was given the QO....

Trivia question:

Mitch Haniger's $43.5M contract is the second-largest deal the Giants have handed out to a free-agent position player since Barry Bonds signed a 7-year, $43.5M deal way back in 1992.

Who had the largest deal since Bonds?

And here I thought the “Bridegrooms” were a name that the doggies used in their history. It is the perpetual position of this team over the last 20+ years.

You do realize he's only posted a season WAR over 3.0 twice (3.1 in 2021 and 6.5 in 2018)? In 6 seasons, his career WAR is 15.4. And he is about to turn 32 years old this month.

His defense doesn't seem to rate too highly either. According to BBRef, his dWAR has been -0.1 (2016), 0.4 (2017), 0.5 (2018), 0.3 (2019), -1.0 (2021), 0.0 (2022). He is the standard of an average defender.

Emotionally, this sucks. But realistically, this is the best outcome. But it is still a PR loss, and now we need to fill the roster elsewhere.

I want Nimmo. Senga and/or Rodon would be great. I am not certain Correa is a PERFECT fit, but if Luciano is, in fact, not a SS, we will need a SS moving forward.

Yeah, bah. Woulda been so nice to have a Bonds-ian type hitter, esp a RHH.

I'm really very surprised that he chose NYY over SFG, esp if the offers were the same. Maybe he's looking at the media/endorsement opportunities.

Plus, it's the team he's familiar with, that drafted him. And let's face it they are closer to winning too. My initial take was he'd never jump to SF, but I wavered lately with all the hot and heavy rumors. Apparently he turned down $400 million from San Diego too. It's not really that surprising he stayed.
