Now that the Judge situation is resolved...

"Among the teams interested in signing the free agent are rumored to be the Baltimore Orioles, Seattle Mariners and San Francisco Giants."

A nice package deal would be to get both Yoshida and Senga. They could help each other acclimate. An OF and a SP, both things we need, and establish ourselves to the Japanese fan base. Just a thought.

Plus, it's the team he's familiar with, that drafted him. And let's face it they are closer to winning too. My initial take was he'd never jump to SF, but I wavered lately with all the hot and heavy rumors. Apparently he turned down $400 million from San Diego too. It's not really that surprising he stayed.
Even the sports writers were playing up his frustration with the Yankees. That didn't help prevent the SF fires from burning.

They could likely both be signed for a combined $35mm AAV tops.

"Teams will likely have wide variance in how they evaluate Yoshida, but it’s unlikely he will earn a contract that rivals the top-market guys. Seiya Suzuki was another highly-touted slugger who was posted a year ago and he eventually signed with the Cubs for five years and $85MM. He was 27 years old at the time, two years younger than Yoshida is now. That likely makes it difficult for Yoshida to beat Suzuki’s guarantee, though it’s possible some team values him significantly higher than the Cubs valued Suzuki. For the teams that miss out on the top free agent outfielders, Yoshida should add an interesting new option for the next tier of the market."
So just dreaming here, of the $100mm-ish AAV available next year, we could have:

Haniger - $11mm (going by tzill's earlier post)
Yoshida/Senga - $35mm
Correa - $30mm
Bullpen help - $15mm

Leaves $10mm or so for a mid-season move.

I'd take that.

All the speculative talk was to be expected. But in the end he did the obvious thing.

Supposed to be an excellent defensive outfielder as well. No dWAR stat available, but he has had multiple error-free seasons.

One also has to like the latter seasons' 2:1 BB:K ratio.

You do realize he's only posted a season WAR over 3.0 twice (3.1 in 2021 and 6.5 in 2018)? In 6 seasons, his career WAR is 15.4. And he is about to turn 32 years old this month.

His defense doesn't seem to rate too highly either. According to BBRef, his dWAR has been -0.1 (2016), 0.4 (2017), 0.5 (2018), 0.3 (2019), -1.0 (2021), 0.0 (2022). He is the standard of an average defender.
In some fairness, he had some injury issues in some of those years from which he seems to have recovered.

But, as we have learned from Belt, injury issues only increase with age. He may be recovered from his previous injuries but what is the likelihood that he'll stay injury free for any season?

Point taken, but it's not like we signed him to a 9/360.

My original point is that he is not a 4-6 WAR player, like tzill stated. He's a decent hitter and an average defender who is injury prone and the wrong side of 30. I feel that the expectations for him are too high. He's still one of the better outfielders on the market, though, and he didn't cost that much.

Haniger is being paid to be a solid starter, but not an allstar. I think that is about where expectations are. If he is THE roster add for the off-season, than it will be a VERY bad off season. If he is the #3 or #4 roster add, than that is OK.

If he is the marquee add this offseason, then he should never have been added to begin with. That would signal a complete rebuild.

Just throwing this out there...if we can get Dansby Swanson for $10mm less AAV and for a shorter duration than Correa, I'd rather get Swanson. More $$$ to maybe help get Rodon back, or help get another quality SP or RP.

Ironically, it may be signing Correa that could even get Rodon interested in coming back. However, they may be no set of moves that could convince him to come back.

While Correa is good, he won't move the needle like Aaron Judge would have.

So perhaps we should pivot back to the formula that worked so well in 2010/2012/2014 - good balanced everyday lineup with no superstars but no holes, deep SPs and RPs.

Yeah.

let’s put a home grown team of solid everyday players together by April.

I don't disagree with any of that ANALYSIS.

But you actually took the time to read up.

FWIW, I was averaging his last two healthy seasons to project WAR.

As I said, health is the issue, hence the price.

I would think that Nimmo is their primary target now. If we miss out on him, I think the only other outfielder worth looking at is Benintendi and maybe Conforto.
I can't see Nimmo coming to SF.

Devout Xtian, MAGAchud.

Not gonna happen.

Emotionally, this sucks. But realistically, this is the best outcome. But it is still a PR loss, and now we need to fill the roster elsewhere.

I want Nimmo. Senga and/or Rodon would be great. I am not certain Correa is a PERFECT fit, but if Luciano is, in fact, not a SS, we will need a SS moving forward.
Nimmo is a no go
Rodon is a no go

Bring me Senga

Yeah, bah. Woulda been so nice to have a Bonds-ian type hitter, esp a RHH.

I'm really very surprised that he chose NYY over SFG, esp if the offers were the same. Maybe he's looking at the media/endorsement opportunities.
Maybe, but I think he wants to do the "Yankee my whole career" thing.

Probably means he goes into the HOF with no rings.
