“Starting to believe”??

Where have you been? I thought it was pretty much a foregone conclusion when he bailed on his last start. then it was leaked that he was over Kapler (totally understandable stance, imho)

I was on that bandwagon during the season but got hopeful this offseason. That was dashed with last night's Tweet.

And I'm starting to think that Rodon won't be returning:

I am sure there must have been a miscommunication there it should read

Zaidi said #SFGiants are targeting 3 light hitting versatile Middle Infielders (2 OF, 1 SP). Asked about adding a No. 2 starter, he said they’ve “kind of got other needs.”

Come on Sandisfan, be realistic. He's targeting at least 8 light hitting versatile middle infielders right now.

Among the starters the Giants have interest in: former A’s lefty Sean Manaea. He could be a very nice fit for them.

All who have horrible defensive metrics, of course…

Per Slusser:

Giants have had face to face meetings with Boros re: Correa and Nimmo. Neither has visited Oracle Park...yet

Josh Bell to Cleveland
Bellinger expected to sign by tomorrow, has met with SF
Heaney to Texas (Bochy noises) 2/25 with opt out.

Carlos Rodon has listed Baltimore as a preferred destination. Unclear how much the Orioles would offer. Rodon likes the direction of the club.

“Direction of the club” = “amount of money they are willing to pay me”

Not that there is anything wrong with that. Just reading it for what it really means.

Bellinger to the Cubs
I am not overly upset about this. He has been sooooo piss poor the last 2 seasons, it is probably a long shot he ever becomes a plus player again. And at that price tag, the questions are a bit steep.

I'd been okay with him as a Giant if the price tag was about how that much. It will be interesting to see where his career goes in 2023.

That entire contract is based on his potential. His production does not point to anywhere near that amount. But when you are taking a flyer on a player, there needs to be an upside. The cubs are paying him based on the top end of his range. It makes no sense.

While I am not exactly “excited” about this move, it is only a 14M per deal. That is about the equivalent of a lower-end starting level OF. I am OK with that, I guess.

Let's say the Haniger deal is spread evenly across 3 years (14.5m per year) and Judge signs a 9 year, 360m deal and it too is spread evenly (40m per year). That leaves the Giants with about 41.5m left before hitting the luxury tax.

If tzill's source is correct, and Correa wants to be a Giant, and, say, he decides he'll be a nice guy and only ask for 20m more over 11 years than what Turner got, that means the Giants would have about 12.5m left under the cap.

Haniger is terribly overrated, in my opinion, but he's still a good major league outfielder. I'm okay with it. Judge and Haniger do signal, though, that Ramos may be moved on.

Haniger probably closes the book on Nimmo.
