So the analogy holds true. They went cheap and old.
I usually don't like the older guy signings, but at least Patrick Peterson can still perform. 5 INTs last year, 15 deflections, 66 tackles, all around his career highs from his 2nd year with Arizona.

Let's hope he holds up. Also concerned they will still go DB at 17 and reach. I hope I am wrong on that though.

Interesting... Peterson has some life left, but I need to see the #'s before I feel good about it...

On the surface this looks like a bridge signing which leads me to believe they are going CB early in the draft.

And I thought Peterson said he wanted to sign with a contender? Maybe he just wanted to play with an all-pro safety?

Oh man if DB is what they choose at 17, I'll be profoundly disappointed. There would be so many better options at 17. What kills me is that if Joey Porter Jr is available at 17, they will probably take him just because of who his daddy is.

I saw that it was a 2 year deal but haven't seen any $ yet.

^ Yeah read it was 2 year deal (the number of years he wanted to play before retiring) but was undisclosed.

I still think 17 is probably a CB. Someone PP can mentor.

I feel like there is a bigger need for us than CB at 17, especially now with signing Peterson. OL is still #1 on my list, then we can worry about a CB.

Well here are the financials:

So it makes sense then. Especially if they bring in a young DB in the draft and then gives them more cap space vs the Sutton deal.

In the end the analogy holds true they went old like Hextall and cheap like Nutting. :D

Christ…

CB @ 17.. how much input does Weidle have? If he had a lot to do with PHI he doesn’t draft CB early and likes to focus on the big boys.
Doesn't appear to have much influence at all... but I'll keep crossing my fingers that they do the right thing either through FA or the draft. If CB is at 17, then they better go OL at 32 (if not move back for numerous 2nd Rd picks and still get OL).

Just peaked at the breakdown on spotrac... Very reasonable contract. $5.85 guaranteed, but only a $4.2m cap hit this season with a potential out after 1 yr before his cap doubles. Basically a prove it contract to an aged vet. Very surprised he couldn't find a better contract elsewhere TBH.

There are absolutely bigger needs. But I think it's a very Steeler thing to do, and I think they are likely still laser-focused on a CB at 17.

My guess is they have eyes on DL Bryan Bresee & LB Trenton Simpson. I doubt they have eyes on EDGE/OLB Myles Murphy given their current situation. Bresee & Murphy are the only 1st Rd graded prospects. Simpson is mid to late 2nd Rd.

I'd really love to come out of this draft with one of Trenton Simpson, Drew Sanders or Jack Campbell

Clemson's Jordan McFadden could be a good LG in the mid-rounds.
