Nets fucked up. They were better off rolling the dice and seeing how well KD and Irving played in the playoffs. IMO they were the most dangerous team in the east. Plus, they will likely never be as good again, so you don't really lose much.

Lakers also fucked up, because Kyrie gave the Lakers a decent shot at winning another championship, and now they have 0 shot.

Nets would've been stuck this summer with no cap space otherwise, unless Kyrie needed a S&T.

Lakers could've made the trade and dealt with the extension fall out this summer, but this is their one shot with that expiring salary. Tough to use it on Kyrie if they're worried about him being worth a 4 year deal, and lose those 2 firsts as well.

Probably been touched on since you posted but I don't feel like ready 10 pages worth of the thread to catch up, but there's 2 reasons for this. The first being no team wants to give him a 4 year deal because he's nuts and not dependable. But the second is no team can give him a 4 year deal right now. Per the CBA, he's only eligible for a 2 year extension right now. He has to hit free agency to get a 4 year deal and every team is very hesitant to trade a lot of assets knowing he could just walk in FA for any reason. Even if you got a verbal agreement from him, he could still flake on you between now and July for whatever dumbass reason pops into his head.
Just as you stated.

Except, Kyrie may not have played in the playoffs.

Still worth it. Let him sit. The owners need to grow some balls. This is also why they should never let players get guaranteed contracts imo

The Mavs got Kyrie relatively cheaply because he is crazy as fuck. I don't like the trade for the Nets because they got so little in return. I would have just ridden this season out.
Hard to ride it out with someone as unprofessional as he is. They got 2 solid role players

Huge risk by Dallas but in the end the only real asset they lose is DFS. The future pick is an unknown. Worst case, Dallas has cap space I believe

BKN did fine in this trade

Nets will be irrelevant for decades anyways after this, whats the difference?

Lakers would want to sign him if they won a championship. If not let him walk, Lebron is leaving anyways . Might as well have gone all in for this year.

Nets came out pretty good in this imo. The Kyrie situation was untenable. He is a cancer. They weren't gonna be able to wait this out and see if they could make a playoff run. You can't be as toxic as Kyrie and hope it all just gels together in 2 months. Basketball doesn't work that way. In return, they got players that can help them now, which still keeps them in title contention because a healthy KD is a fucking beast. Dinwiddie is a good starter. DFS is a great 3 and D guy. They got a 1st and multiple 2nds. They came out good here in a bad situation.

I'm VERY skeptical about this for Dallas. I think its a huge risk to put a player like Kyrie next to Luka. You're gonna have to hope that Kyrie swallows his pride a bit and plays off ball the same way he did in Cleveland next to Lebron because Luka and Lebron are the same player stylistically. They are point forwards where they control the entire show. Kyrie bristled at that role towards the end of his run with Lebron and has wanted the ball ever since. Their gonna butt heads constantly on court if Kyrie doesn't adjust.

BIG risk for the Mavs if they are just gonna wait and see this offseason. For the reasons I mentioned above, Kyrie and Luka could clash. If Kyrie isn't happy with his role the next few months, he could walk. And Kyrie not being happy is a very real possibility

Dallas went all in. They want to win this year, and the west is pretty wide open. Same thing the lakers could have done...

So Nets are done now for this season. One less team to worry about in the East. Not a bad outcome from a Sixers perspective.

Your takes on the Lakers and Lebron are skewed something fierce, lol.

The Lakers were all giddy about getting Kyrie just a few hours ago, now suddenly they didn't want him lol

Kyrie, Lebron and AD if healthy was the best team in the west.

They have to wait until the summer anyway, as Kyrie isn't going to sign a 2 year extension. Even if they could lock him up for 4 more years today, that doesn't guarantee anything with Kyrie.
