Not sure how to make sense of these roster-manipulation moves... Cutting Coward, Finney & Maulet only to resign them back onto the active 53-man roster the next day?

Well at least the CB & IOL positions don't look as perilous now.

Kinda sorta figured this out via tweets from Neal Coolong...

So they had to cut those 3 (Coward, Finney & Maulet) in order to keep 3 (Banner, McFarland, Tuitt) and move them to IR. Those players have verbal agreements to return on their current salaries if they don't want to go elsewhere. Vested Vets (4+ years of accrued seasons) do not go through waivers and can turn down any offer to sign elsewhere.

Now the question becomes... Seeing as all 3 of those IR guys can & most likely will return in week 4... Who gets cut at that point? Snell & UG3 are my top candidates. And maybe 1 of Finney/Coward/JCH?

Yep seems like a return specialist option on paper... Just in case Ray Ray gets the yips or gets injured.

My only thought it is a formality since they had to wait to put the others on IR.

It's a good development. Stash 3 players to take an extended look at some others.

Got Big Dan in as LT starter, for one.

Out of all the ex Steeler fringe players cut, the only one I wouldn’t mind bringing back to the Practice squad is Derwin Gray. Their OL needs the depth and not sure what they have there is any better.

Also they lost Quincy Roche to the Giants. Nothing against him but that was a testament to how deep their OLB core is.

Yeah that is scary bad along with Samuels/Edmunds on the practice squad.

On a side topic I am still trying to figure out why they signed Ballage at all? Nothing from prior seasons and the pre season impressed me vs what they already had.

Witherspoon played for the 49ers last year. He lost a battle in Seattle this off-season.

But the Seahawks’ secondary is pretty bad right now so I don’t know how to be excited about this.

Seems like Sutton is moving to the slot now. And Pierre & Witherspoon battle for outside.

I honestly don't hate the deal and by the time 2023 comes around they will most likely have a compensation pick to replace that one.

Looks like they cut Mondeaux to make room for Witherspoon.
