Makes me think the Steelers told him they would cut him if he didn't take a paycut. Asking for trade forces the new team to pay him what he's owed on his current contract.

Hold him hostage. He has a 14.4 million dollar cap hit this season.

He gets to keep the 6.1 million dollar bonus that he was paid for this season regardless of whether he plays, gets cut or gets traded.

Such a hostage situation to be paid that well!

I want to see a player one day be honest and actually offer to pay back the pro-rated bonus so they can get the team to release them.

Well that sucks. They need space to get the rookie class under contract so I suspect they needed him to restructure or get released. I'm glad it was him & not Haden TBH.

Glad they have Sutton if they don't find another outside CB. Takes the pressure off finding a CB. Slot or outside doesn't matter as much. Just find the guy they like at the right time in the draft. Or maybe Pierre is that guy right now?
