Yup, my first and last "inside source" was wrong.‘Shaw signed an extension with the dogs today, so he is officially off the table.
MLBTR has us snagging Pollock and Anibal Sanchez for next year:
2018-19 Top 50 MLB Free Agents With Predictions
Eesh, the years before scare me, and he only pitched 136 innings last year. He'll be 35 by the start of ST. I suppose we have to get SOMEbody, but man...Also, 22/2 seems a bit low for Sanchez, given his year. I'd take that contract.
Too injury prone, too old (31), would block some up-and-comers.I should also say that 60/4 for Pollock seems a bit steep, but if structured 18/16/14/12 I could live with it.
I would be ok with that. A player with a history of being good, but not coming off a career year. That has potential value written all over it. I worry about the defense, though. He is restricted to LF and is already below average as it is.https://nypost.com/2018/11/02/mlbs-...6r-t01M62xqFe0hUId7jwlvC60UL43zQiTDtUP8ZosI1M

10. Michael Brantley, OF. Timing is everything. He stayed healthy in his walk year after being sidelined for much of 2016 and 2017. Prediction: Giants, three years, $42 million.
What about his history injury (which seems to be a thing with most free agents this season)?I would be ok with that. A player with a history of being good, but not coming off a career year. I am no expert on him. Only looking at his BBRef page. But it doesn’t look that bad. He basically missed ‘16, but played 90 games in ‘17 and a full year last year. What about his history injury (which seems to be a thing with most free agents this season)?
Meh.From CBS Sports - best FA for each team
San Francisco Giants: 1B/OF Steve Pearce
The Giants haven't yet named a GM, so who knows exactly what they'll be looking for this winter. We're playing it safe by assuming whomever it is will want to add some offense. Pearce, the unlikely World Series MVP, can spare Brandon Belt against lefties and see action in the corner outfield spots as well.
------------------------
He's 35, but could be a good platoon player. Just finished a 2/12.5. I could see us going 2/15, if that would get him.
Yeah, either way he won't move the needle much. But if we are looking for some cheap, decent depth, then maybe.Meh.
If they sign him in February, great get. If they sign him in November, it is a white-flag.
I doubt it. Grandal is a good hitting catcher in a weak catcher market and a lot of teams in need of a good offensive catcher. He may get dinged a bit in salary but could still probably get better than the QO.7 players received QOs. A QO is worth 17.9M this year.
Patrick Corbin
Yasmani Grandal
Bryce Harper
Dallas Keuchel
Craig Kimbrel
AJ Pollock
Hyun-Jin Ryu
I think Grandal MIGHT accept his. He had a horrible post season and may want so delay his free agency by a year.

From MLB Trade Rumors:
The Giants have been an oft-suggested landing spot for Harper over the past several seasons, but Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area cites multiple sources in calling the interest “overblown.” One Giants exec tells Pavlovic that the team is “shocked” to be so frequently connected to Harper, adding that the Giants would only be in play for the outfielder if he “really, really” wanted to be a Giant and spurned larger offers elsewhere.
The same could have been said of Bonds, but it was worth the headaches. If the Giants are passing on Harper and Machado, then I hope a rebuild really does happen and we forego free agents (other than minor league ones, which the farm is in desperate need of in the upper minors and dumpster dives).I'm fine with that. Obviously talents like Bryce Harper aren't available too often, but you just get the sense that there's going to be a lot of headaches along the way.
