Marcus Gilbert just went to IR for the Cardinals.

Steelers got rid of him at the right time, his body is giving out.

His playing time after 2015 dove straight off a cliff. Here are his games started:

2016 - 13
2017 - 7 (suspended 4 games for PEDs)
2018 - 5

Writing was on the wall. He struggled a lot with hamstring issues his last 2 years in PIT.

Yep...as a vet, he got his guaranteed money on the way out the door for the last time. Body gave out on him some time ago actually...I'm sure that's why he turned to the PEDs.

I'd give a 1 (if necessary) for Fitzpatrick.

FS, solved for a generation.

Now if they can just figure out to not have CB's covering fullbacks, and LB's covering downseam WR's we're golden.

Good pick up.

Was considering starting a thread on this, but felt it wasn't worth it sense these guys thing personnel issue after the season has started are taboo for some reason.

I'd give Davis, + and a 2nd rd pick (1st is steep, but I would do it as well) and maybe try to get a later pick back.

Think of it this way:

Minkah went 11.

Pittsburgh took Terrell Edmunds at 28.

It would take at least two 1's to go up and get him, that year.

Now he could possibly be picked up for a 1 by itself, maybe some less with some dealing. And Miami paid most of his rookie contract already, so he's cheap.

I would love to see this happen.

I'm all in!

You and me both would love to see this happen....it would be ideal to tighten up the back end now vs later as Davis has an uphill climb to keep this job beyond this season.

Probably will be in the market for a safety/DB for the 2020 draft anyway. Low chance whoever is available to them will be anywhere near the player Minkah is.

Bush
Edmunds
Watt
Burns
Dupree
Shazier
Jones

I am not worried at all about trading away a 1st round pick.
Not a great record, there of a long run of straight defensive players. Trade that 1st for a safety you know can play. Of that list only Watt looks like he really belongs on the field. Bush is a rook, and Edmunds is looking really shaky, but the entire defense was a mess of blown assignments and retardation.

Kam Kelly is lucky he's even on a roster. Sean Davis is a jag.

One more thing, since this has me excited enough I'll now be very let down if it doesn't happen:

Minkah is an all-pro level talent at slot corner or Free safety.

Miami was playing him at Strong Safety, where he isn't near as good (and doesn't want to play).

If that's their need, Sean Davis can play SS for them. He was about as serviceable there, as he's been at FS.

Bring in Fitzpatrick & moving Davis back to SS makes almost too much sense. Davis is a physical & rangy player. Putting him where he doesn’t need to focus on coverage would be good.

That's why my trade would give them Davis + a pick

Brace yourself now. :D
