I'd expect the Sac to start the season on the DL, but the news yesterday was encouraging (he's feeling better).

Man, I hope this wrist thing isn't chronic.

Yeah this is going to be a back and forth until the end of ST. I still like the idea of the Sac going to Sac and getting some PT while he works back to full strength.

Was just looking at the updated minor league transactions page on Baseball America and they list Stratton as having been optioned to triple A but I didn't see that anywhere else. Was Stratton just up for a spot appearance or has not really been optioned yet?
It was split squad games yesterday so maybe they have the option of expanding the lineups. Someone else should with more knowledge should answer the question tho

Herk with 5 dingers in 23 ab, wow

According to Baggs: Stratton already had been optioned to Triple-A Sacramento, where he’s expected to pitch in the rotation.

Giants notes from an 0-1-1 day: Third time's a charm for Jake Peavy, Hunter Pence is in launch mode, etc. - Giants Extra

I didn't know where to post this, but the Giants Dbacks game was on MLB Network last night with the DBacks broadcast crew calling the game. The gem said was as follows:

Matt Duffy up for his first AB, swings and misses for strike three. This is the convo between the two announcers as Duffy walked back to the dugout.

Announcer #1 : There was a lot of hand wringing in the Bay Area as to who was going to replace Kung Fu Panda at 3B after he left for Boston via FA. Matt Duffy did a tremendous job replacing him and Giants fans have all but forgotten about the Panda.

Announcer #2: And the Panda in Boston has turned into a parade float...that's been problematic this spring.

Harsh.

But true.

And predictable.

Belted and Belted! I can't wait to see the full lineup play.

Thanks everyone for the feedback on Stratton. Here's the guys left (barring another move that I missed) in camp.
A few thoughts on the state of the camp:
* Looks like the Giants are giving a long look at Broadway, Gearrin and Lara(?) before settling on that last bullpen spot.
* Trevor Brown is getting a serious look. Is Kottaras really still around? If so, I would assume mostly to help shoulder the catching load to keep the rest of the guys fresh.
* Adrianza still seems to have serious challenges from Gillaspie, Green and Pena for that last infield spot.
* Gorkys Hernandez seems to have really gotten his foot inserted into that final outfield spot battle between Parker and Williamson.

I think EA has done all that was asked and more. He's having a great Spring so far. I'd say the guy who should be looking over his shoulder is Tomlinson.

Hopefully he's transformed himself so that he can produce come 4apr.

It certainly looks like EA has done enough to get the spot. KT has options, and I think he is enough of a prospect that I would rather see him play each day and develop anyway.

So it looks like it's down to KT, Green, and Gillaspie for the last IF spot, Gorkys, Parker, and Williamson for the last OF spot, Brown and Susac for the backup catcher, and Gerrin and Broadway for the potentially last BP spot.

Gorkys making a serious push for the club hurts Tomlinson in a way. Boch loves power off the bench, and if his 5 reserves are Brown/Susac, EA, KT, Blanco and Gorkys, he doesn't have much power out of that group. I think Brown/Susac, Blanco and EA are locks, so it comes down to two groups of two making it: Gorkys and Gillaspie, or KT and Parker.

If I had to guess right now, I'd say Susac and Cain start the season on the DL, and Gorkys, Gillaspie, Gerrin (the 3 G's!), and Brown are on the ML roster.

Prob with Gorkys AND Gonnor making the club is that neither are on the 40. We can 60 Gardeck, but we would still need to free up one spot.

DFA Broadway?

True, didn't consider that fact. Hmm, that may have just swayed me to my other group.

Watching the Giants game on ESPN right now, and boy it's been a clinic of hitting right now. First time through the order: Opposite field fly-out, CF line drive hit, Oppo field double, Oppo field single, Oppo field single, walk, walk against Jake Arrieta. It was beautiful hitting to watch, even in Spring. Bam Bam must be proud.

edit: After Arrieta leaves the game, Pagan comes up and hits a single to CF. Kelby then pulls the only ball of the inning and records an out. Great time through the lineup.

This is the kind of roster Carney wanted to coach.

His parting shots were rather funny.

But is this good hitting by the Giants, or should Cubs fans be worried about Arietta having a shit-show of a season?

Arietta...

1/3 IP, 5 runs scored, 4 hits, 2 walks.

I hope the Cubs have their scouts looking at the '17 draft...

Poor guy, never had a chance. He was given crappy veterans who were not going to change their approach, and his best young hitter swung at anything that moved.
