Losing Greinke as a FA wouldn't be as concerning to me other than he went to another NL west club not named the Doyers. That immediately elevates the Snakes into the mix. But it clearly places the Doyers in the middle of the mix for remaining SP market. Do they stop at Cuerto or do they also now turn to Leake and/or Fister as well?
Smardzija looks enticing but what a freaking gamble. One good year does not make him a 100M dollar pitcher but I think the market will say otherwise.

5 years $90M. Awful signing. Desperation is a stinky cologne.

Would have rather had Leake for the Zimmerman money.

And that would be a gross overpay for Leake, but I would have preferred that as well. At least then we would have gotten a decent pitcher.

Whether he works out here very well or not. He's coming off a career worst year in everything and was one of the worst starters in the league last season. You dot throw a contract like that out after a season like his imhumbleo.

Sorry bud, I don't like this contract one bit.

And that's fair, we're all just opining here. I'm just saying the FO sees the same stats we do and then 1000x more. Last year he was in a hitters park with a terrible defense behind him. I'm glass half full on this, more depending on our next moves.

I'm personally not even that mad about the money, I just don't really like the pitcher all that much. Cautious optimism that Raggs, Garner, Tidrow see something in him that they can fix though.

I wonder if this signing says anything about their overall interest in Leake. This, combined with the rumors that the Giants and Leake have not even talked opens the door to the possibility that the Giants just aren't that interested in Leake.

Complete extrapolation and I am not sure I subscribe to it, but it is a thought.

Scrabble will make $9M next year, allowing the Giants to potentially make 2 more key moves.

Ok, Scrabble is here. No getting away from that at this point.

He does bring a BIG positive in that he looks like an innings eater, and there is no reason to believe that should change in a major way in the next 3-4 years. That should take a LOT of pressure off the bully.

This puts our rotation RIGHT NOW as...

Bum
Scrabble
Peavy
Cain
Heston/Blackburn

If we can add Cueto or Leake to that, then it isn't horrible. Heston/Blackburn can step in if/when Peavy/Cain falters or to fill in for injuries.

My primary wants at this point for an OF get is Heyward or Gordon. I want defense! And only costing us our second rounder is an acceptable cost at this point. I would be OK with Cespedes, but I just don't trust that he is truly an elite talent and I am not sure about his clubhouse presence (4 teams will have said "goodbye" to him in the last 2 years).

And MAYBE Rags is completely sold on Cain and he believes there is a good chance we get a 1/2 out of him this year.

Obviously I am not a fan of this move. But apparently, Vegas likes it. The Giants are now the favorites to win the Series at 8:1
