Don't know why, because I really like Zobrist.....but thank God the Giants didn't get him. Don't like the idea of him for 4 years. Especially after the Samardzija deal.

I understood WHY the Giants were interested but a) WAY too big a price tag and b) WAY to old to justify the years on the price tag.

Assuming the Angels pay $11M on Wilson's salary, and the Giants pay the remaining $9M. We would be paying Pagan to not be here though. Just a thought.

exactly my point...$20MM

A co-worker of mine mentioned that Heyward is deciding between the Cubs, Cardinals and Angels but I haven't seen anything that backs that up.

Plus, it sounds like the Giants are preferring to target a premium pitcher over hitter, but things could change.

So does this increase the Giants interest in Gordon or Cespedes,or have no affect? By most reports, the Giants and Heyward talks never advanced very far, so this may do nothing but set some values. $24M AAV for the top FA OFer. Where does that place Cespedes, Gordon and Upton?

I don't think much effect. I believe the Giants are targeting a higher profile starter over a higher profile outfielder.

Panik or Belt for Carrasco? I find this intriguing:

Indians Notes: Salazar, Alvarez, Carter, Panik, Kipnis

The Indians have asked the Giants about Joe Panik “a couple of times this winter.” ESPN’s Buster Olney recently reported that the Tribe asked for Panik and Brandon Belt as part of a package for Carlos Carrasco. In regards to that proposed deal, Hoynes says Cleveland would’ve used Panik at second and could’ve shifted Jason Kipnis to third. Hoynes doesn’t think Kipnis would’ve been (or is being) shopped, and I have to agree — dealing Kipnis in the wake of his big bounce-back season would be a curious move, though the Tribe could command a huge return from another club.
Carlos Carrasco Statistics and History | Baseball-Reference.com

The Indians are insane if it's Carrasco for Panik AND Belt.

We would be getting a potential #2 for $4.5 million in salary. Plus potentially 4 more years after that for a max of $9.5 million/yr. It would allow us to sign a premium OF then as well.

If it can be Panik and a reasonably high prospect, we should definitely consider it.

I would like Carrasco, but no way would I send half of our infield to get him. Make a weakness stronger by obliterating a strength.

I don't want to part with Panik, but with To links on and Arroyo, he is probably the smartest move. So who do we package him with? Mejia? Stratton? Shaw? Beede? Susac?

I saw on ESPN that the Astros are listening to offers on George Springer for pitching. I have unfortunately stopped following the farm system and have no real idea what we have down there anymore. Do we have the pieces to bring him over? Do any of you know how he would do in CF?

I'm sorry in advance if that is a stupid question or if it has been discussed before.

If Panik, a SP prospect besides Beede or Blackburn, and a reliever prospect could get it done, we should certainly consider it. There is huge potential value in Carrasco's contract, besides the value in Carrasco himself.

Per Ken Rosenthal: Giants making "strong push" for Cueto.

6/126 is the number being rumored.

He's awfully good, the right side of 30. OTOH, kind of a doyer-esque bonehead and he did have a poor second half in 2015...

21 AAV is not a problem. 6 years IS a problem.

I think I would prefer Leake to Cueto, but I am not sure either side felt the chemistry (Leake and the Giants), unfortunately. If they had, I would think that deal would have already been done.
