Petit and Sanchez have been non-tendered, per Baggs. Roster now stands at 38.
I had wondered if both would be non-tendered. Neither seem to have a place on the team any longer but I could see Sanchez re-signed for triple A depth. I would think he would go somewhere where they give him a chance to make the team. As for Petit, I wouldn't think I would have a problem getting a one year deal with a team in need of relief help.

The Giants havent, and shouldnt, talk to him until they know if they have Greinke or not.

What would be the point of opening negotiations at this point? Leake understands this. The Giants understand this.
Beyond that, 2nd and 3rd tier free agent pitchers should understand that the market is dictated, to a certain extent, by the 1st tier guys. If they want to sign with a club interested in a 1st tier pitcher, they will have to wait until the market shakes out. Only guys who want to go to smaller market teams will start negotiating now (generally, there are always exceptions).

What do people here think of Yoenis Cespedes? He's proven to hit homers in any ballpark, 3 of the 4 ballparks he's called home have been pitchers parks. He's decent enough in LF (don't know how he won a GG, but he's not bad out there).

Aoki is off the table, but Byrd is still out there. Our offense doesn't really NEED another bat, but you can never have enough. If Grenkie falls through, Cespedes+Leake probably equal the same amount of money, plus another starter like Kazmir, or even lower tier like Fister, would complete a good offseason. In that scenario, Giants get to keep all their picks as well. They don't add a sexy rotation option, but it would be deeper than last years.

I'd consider a Leake/Fister/Byrd off season a good one. If the baseball gods want to give us Greinke in exchange for Fister, I'd be more then thrilled....I'd probably piss myself. I hope Leake wants to come back and I hope Sabes is simply waiting for the Greinke shoe to drop, not that he doesn't have interest in retaining him. I thought Leake, when not hurt, was a solid pitcher for us...and he seems to want to be here.

I am basically in the (minority) opinion that we do not need an OFer. We have 2 MLB-ready OFers coming up and Blanco as a VERY good 4, passable 3.

And we already have one of the best offenses in the majors. I just dont see the OF as a major need the way many of you seem to.
Wooooow!

We won't contend with an OF of Pence, Pagan, Blanco, and two rookies.

No proven injury replacements, no bat off the bench. Yikes.

For any OF we get, his WAR would go right to the bottom line.

I'd be very happy if we could get Leake and Cespedes.

I think you're being awfully conclusory here. I don't know of any team that has a solid 1-8 with no holes. Several of those teams will contend. Further, I'd be just fine with Oxy/Shark/Herk/Parker/Mac if we had Greinke.
I'm also not convinced that a bench of KT/EA/Parker/Mac/Sac wouldn't have power.

I like Cespedes, but we don't need him to contend.

The Kansas City Royals.

The Giants will probably add some sort of veteran to the outfield group, big ticket or dumpster dive. It'll probably depend on how we do with fixing the rotation. Grenkie means dumpster dive, Leake means Cespedes/Zobrist/Heyward (LONG shot).

The Oky/Shark/Herk/Parker/Mac outfield group didn't work last year, mostly because of injuries. We know it's a matter of time before Pagan goes down, and the Giants have no depth outside of those 5. Parker and Mac can still be sent to AAA. The Giants have to add something to the mix, even just for some depth.

I do have a lot of faith in Parker/Mac. I think a platoon of those guys would produce 2-3 WAR in LF over the season. I just don't trust Pagan to stay healthy, putting the Giants in a fragile spot with 4 OFers and no depth.

I say pass. The guy is way over priced due to his half season in New York. While he hits some home runs and has a powerful cannon for an arm, his OPS (outside of that Met half season) is .787. Decent, but hardly what he will get paid for. The money could be better spent. Keep in mind that his two worst seasons was his 2nd full season in Oakland and his season split between Oakland and Boston. And I know that it may be nothing, but I do find it interesting that 4 teams have let him go in the past two years.

That is an unfair statement to make. Parker and Williamson weren't even in the mix until September and that only after a few guys went down with injuries. A better statement would be that the Pagan/Blanco/Pence/Aoki/Maxwell outfield didn't work out very well, mostly because of injuries. Maxwell's production faded fast after a promising start. Pagan was horrible for most of the season, when healthy enough to play, until the very last month. Blanco was good enough to start regularly. Pence was good when he played but had a couple of freak accidents. Aoki was good until he got injured and then, when he returned, was a lot more pedestrian.

Two of these guys are gone (Maxwell to the Marlins and Aoki to the Mariners). I think that Parker and Williamson could do better than those two's numbers. Health is a concern but I don't think the concern warrants over paying an outfielder. I trust the Giants' front office a lot more on organizational guys and bargain bin signings than big name free agents.

Fair enough. Like I said, I'm confident Parker/Mac would produce if given the opportunity. I also expect Pence to stay mostly healthy and Blanco to produce similar to his 2015. That's a fairly competent group, but shallow IMO. A big move could be warranted if it's the right fit, but I agree it's not necessary. I too am not sold on Cespedes, though he would be a flashy addition in the power department. I think Zobrist would be a better fit, perfect player for Bochy. Of course, the Giants may have already set their sights on Blanks.

II would prefer Heyward or Byrd to Cespedes, but I would be OK with Cespedes if that were the direction the org chose to go.

But the OF is such a secondary need to the rotation that it hardly even deserves mention.

"I think you're being awfully conclusory here. I don't know of any team that has a solid 1-8 with no holes."

OBJECTION! Hearsay evidence. And even if every team has holes, that does not mean we shouldn't try to have a team without one.

"I'm also not convinced that a bench of KT/EA/Parker/Mac/Sac wouldn't have power."

OBJECTION! I didn't say the bench wouldn't have power. I said there'd be no proven bat off the bench.

"I like Cespedes, but we don't need him to contend."

OBJECTION! I never said we needed him to contend. I said we "won't contend with an OF of Pence, Pagan, Blanco, and two rookies." I merely stated I'd be happy with getting Yo-anus. But I would settle for a somewhat lesser upgrade. But we need an upgrade.

John Lackey to Cubs. 2-year deal $33M. 2 years ain't bad, but surrendering a pick would have hurt for a 37 year old jack-ass.

The market get's more thin. Grenkie needs to decide.

It's just something to talk about while the rotation seems to be on hold until Grenkie decides.
