Am I just a Giants apologist?

I am already defending them not getting Greinke in my head. "We have Blackburn ready for a spot!" or "Leake is a MUCH better value" or "A trade is a better route to take anyway!"

Can someone pass the Kool-Aid? My glass is empty.

In fairness, one has to be prepared mentally for the possibility that we get nothing and like it. It could happen. We can't just jump off the GG Bridge because we didn't get what we want. Life has to go on. It would suck, but life has to go on. Think of it as a Cinderella story, coming out of nowhere...

Well, it's coming down to LA and SF for Grienkie. Both final offers are in, up to Zack to choose.

I'd be totally fine handing out Heyward a big contract if we don't get Grienkie FWIW, and rolling with a mid-tier SP option and Blackburn.

Tonight at 8:59 PST is the deadline to tender contracts to arbitration eligible players. The Giants have 4 arbitration eligible players: Belt, Petit, Sanchez, and Kontos. With the Giants roster full at 40, people are at risk to be non-tendered. Meaning, the Giants will decline to offer a player arbitration and that player will become a free agent.

Belt and Kostos are locks to get tendered. Petit and Sanchez are at risk. I wouldn't be surprised if Petit is tendered, and dealt with later. He's proven his worth, but it could be tough to find room for him. I think Sanchez is a lock to get non-tendered and could possibly re-sign on a minor league contract.

I am getting more and more OK with Cueto / Leake or Miller / Leake.

Basically, I want Leake, I think...

Just so long as we don't get Shark. That guy I do NOT trust.

Leake would be fine, not sure on Cueto. I'd rather roll the dice on someone like Kazmir.

Shark costs a pick. I only want him if we also get Upton. But I would rather Kaz and Cespedes and keep our top 2 picks than sign Shark and Upton and lose both.

Would Leake and Hayward be a successful offseason? Probably for close to the same price as one Greinke.....

I am basically in the (minority) opinion that we do not need an OFer. We have 2 MLB-ready OFers coming up and Blanco as a VERY good 4, passable 3.

And we already have one of the best offenses in the majors. I just dont see the OF as a major need the way many of you seem to.

Wow. Not the way I expected it to play out.

Not that I am surprised to see Petit non-tendered, but to see Hacktor get an offer???

Sanchez has not been announced yet.

In fact, I only saw the Petit from some random guy on Twitter, and here. I saw reports earlier today that the Giants were trying to trade him, but that they'd non-tender him if they couldn't find a trade partner.

FYI - Giants have to pay $1.33M in 'luxury tax' for 2015. If they go over in 2016, the tax rate (almost) doubles.

(b) For a Club that has an Actual Club Payroll above the Tax Threshold in the 2013, 2014, 2015, or 2016 Contract Year, the applicable Competitive Balance Tax rate shall be:

(i) 17.5% if the Club did not exceed the Tax Threshold in the preceding Contract Year;
(ii) 30% if the Club’s Competitive Balance Tax rate in the preceding Contract Year was 17.5% or 20%;
(iii) 40% if the Club’s Competitive Balance Tax rate in the preceding Contract Year was 30%; and
(iv) 50% if the Club’s Competitive Balance Tax rate in the preceding Contract Year was 40, 42.5%, or 50%.

Posting about tax issues here, as that may/could impact whether or not they go after certain FAs.

Make that Cespedes and Greinke. Miller we'll get in a trade for Panik.

:peep:

If we don't re-sign Petit somehow, it seems an ignominious end for a guy who broke a pretty outrageous record as recently as 2014. C'est la guerre.
