I am OK with Hartline. Not so much with Douglas. He really fell off a cliff last year when he was called on. I think he is regressing now. I would rather take the gamble on Hartline, but neither really is optimal.

Id only give Hartline a one year deal.

He really fell off at the end of the year. (While Landry settled in.)Even as a possession receiver he wasn't targeted. And I consider Tannehill a very solid young QB.

Haven't paid enough attention to say anything aboot Douglass.

No matter what, third receiver is not a spot worth spending much money.

Good signing. I could care less if he plays into his forties. As long as the snaps are tight quick spirals and accurate and he still can tackle on punt coverage.

yes sir. agree there.

damn, for any of the young ones on here, should you have a boy, you might want to consider training him early on to become a long-snapper. a really good one. pretty easy money per year when considering amount of snaps played per game and not taking too much of a beating over a long career.

I should have spent my formative years long snapping. What a job.

Gotta basically be a college TE or DE or OT to get a look at it in the NFL, though. There's no dedicated long snappers in college, and damn near every long snapper in the NFL is 6'4" 250 lbs or bigger, it seems. I suppose if you had the requisite size and were a helluva snapper NFL teams wouldn't care if you played college ball or not...

Oakland is parting ways with LaMarr Woodley. Maybe bring the home town guy in on a cheap deal to bolster the pass rush?

Suh stays and sure he could help as Suh helps other around to be better. I prolly pass with no Suh and try and go younger and not somebody towards the end of their career. Then you face whether you are getting a Jared Allen or Julius Peppers? Who thought Allen did nothing to help the Bears. While Peppers actually contributed.

There's quite a few of players on the current roster that won't see the light of day when the official roster is final come August, IMHO or best guess. Guys like
Ryan Broyles
Travis Lewis
Crezdon Butler
Jermelle Cudjo
Taylor Boggs
Skye Dawson
Kerry Hyder
Braxston Cave
Roy Philon
Xavier Proctor
Dwight Bentley...... maybe even Bullet Bill should they draft a replacement or FA seems as though he's injured most of the time

Detroit Lions Salary Cap - Over the Cap over the cap had different players listed on the roster versus Spotrac, the last time I went through it's entirety from a comparison point

Ex-Rams DT Kendall Langford visits Lions
1410878883000-Dave%20Birkett.jpg
By Dave Birkett, Detroit Free Press 1:04 p.m. EST March 2, 2015

The Detroit Lions have an opening at defensive tackle, no matter what happens with Ndamukong Suh, and they're entertaining one possibility to fill it today.

Defensive tackle Kendall Langford is making his first of several scheduled free agent visits with the Lions today. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch first reported the visit.

Langford, 29, was cut by the Rams last week and is eligible to sign immediately with another team.

Langford has been a starter for most of his seven NFL seasons with the Miami Dolphins and St. Louis Rams, but he played mostly as a rotational tackle off the bench after the emergence of Aaron Donald last year.

At 6-feet-6 and 313 pounds, the durable Langford, who never has missed a game in his career, fits the type of big, long-armed run stuffer the Lions are looking for on their defensive front. He had 25 tackles and one sack last year but was released in a cost-cutting move last week.

As a bonus, Langford would not count against the Lions in the formula for compensatory draft picks, considering he was released before his contract expired.

Lions re-sign DL Darryl Tapp

Detroit Lions re-sign DL Darryl Tapp
Defensive end Darryl Tapp signed a one-year, $950,000 deal to stay with the Lions last month, NFL Players Association records show.

Tapp's contract includes an $80,000 signing bonus and, as a minimum salary benefit deal, it carries just a $665,000 salary cap charge.

I wouldn't mind having Langford as a stop gap signing for a yr or two, similar to CJ Mosley's signing a couple yrs back.

The Tapp signing doesn't seem to be bad either and Austin must feel that Tapp could still be instrumental to the team. Should another player come into camp and beat him out, it's not going to hurt financially. It's a start to keeping players that are familiar with the system.

Lions plan to address special teams in free agency
1410878883000-Dave%20Birkett.jpg
By Dave Birkett, Detroit Free Press 9:24 a.m. EST March 2, 2015

Detroit Lions plan to address special teams in free agency

But the position the Detroit Lions will be most active in addressing when the new league year opens next week is special teams, where general manager Martin Mayhew said he's looking for a core player or two to be a difference maker on his coverage units.

"We've got to find some coverage guys," Mayhew said at the NFL combine. "That's what their role is going to be, and they're going to be four-phase guys who do that all the time. So we're actively in that market."

The Lions were solid on their non-field goal special teams units most of last year, but play on their coverage units slipped when injuries began to take a toll on their defense.

I damn for sure want to see Isa Abdul-Quddus brought back this yr. He played pretty damn well, IMO, when Digs was out for those 3 games not to mention the ST's unit.

Speaking of Special teams, Has Prater actually signed yet? They were supposed to meet with him over a week ago.

no, Prater hasn't signed. The only thing I've read to date is that they were talking to his agent.

Prater is one of my must haves as a FA... this off-season.. don't ask Micro to come into this convo... (I remember your remark Micro from a couple weeks ago that you wouldn't care if we had Janikowski PK for us even if he was drunk on game days, or something to that affect). :pound:
