So, if my memory serves, we have as likely to break ST with the big club:

SP: Cain/Bum/Huddy/Freak/Tron
RP: Romo/JA/KCya/JLo/Dunning/Hembree/Petit
C: Gerald/Chez3
IF: BB9/Scoots/Stamos/Panda/Kobe/Pill
OF: Herk/Oxy/(open)/Shark/JCP

Guys with a shot in ST
SP: De Paula/Escobar/Kickham/Surkamp
RP: Kontos/Machi/Rosario/Cordier
C: none
IF: Adrianza/Duvall/Noonan
OF: Kiesh/Brown

Little chance in ST:
SP: Flores
RP: Strickland
C: None
IF: AnVil
OF: None

As the roster sits RIGHT NOW (assuming no trades or FAs), I think your roster is accurate, except Pill makes the team as OF4 (JCP as OF5) and Adrianza is Util2 (Arias is Util1). Abreu gets traded/DFA'd.

I would be surprised if Adrianza/Crawford does not get traded within the next few weeks for either a prospect or in a package for a LF to either platoon with Shark or take the job outright (this includes a CF as well).

Rumor alert...

Yanks and Gs talking Brett Gardner for Crawford. Hmmm.....

Living in NY I can't find anything that even hints at a possible trade. I'm surrounded by NYY fans (ugh) and none of them are aware that Gardner is even being offered ....

Like 98% of the rumors you read this time of year, it probably has no legs.

Winter meetings begin on Monday.

Keep your panties on ladies. If we come out of the winter meetings without anything new, or at least discussions, then maybe it's time to start getting restless. But it's a long offseason, and we haven't even hit the biggest event yet.

SabeySabes often lays the groundwork for trades at the Winter Meetings. If we don't make a trade this week, I wouldn't get restless.

This guy's defense just might be worse than Willingham's.

NFW.

I agree, but I could actually see him in a platoon with Shark in LF. He's a lumbering ox, but facing LHP (and even then not in the late innings) we might be able to hide his glove and have him put up 2.0 WAR.

It's a risk, but I'd take it at $6MM/1 year. He'd likely get a better offer elsewhere.

Phillies Actively Shopping Domonic Brown: MLB Rumors - MLBTradeRumors.com

For the record, I do not think he is a good fit for us. He has splits that do not match out needs (he hits righties well while suffering against lefties) and is a defensive liability.

However, he is an offensive ++ who is still a year away from arb, which means he is under team control for 4 years. I figure he would cost Either Crick alone, or a package of 2 of our other Uber-Arms.

Anyone think this is a direction the FO should explore?

I'd be against it, for the defense alone. He's consistently bad with the glove and not likely to get better. He may give you 3-4 oWAR, but he's going to give back 1.5-2 dWAR.

Just not a good fit.

I'm suspect as to why the Phils are shopping him. Character issues? The guy made the AS team and they're trying to unload him?

There's got to be more to this story under the surface. Has to be.

Of note: Scott Boras is his agent.

No thank you. Take out his hot May and he's been a pedestrian ML player, and his defense is bad. Reminds me a lot of Fred Lewis.

Plus the Phillies will be asking a lot for him simply because of his 27 homers. They are asking for a ML starting pitcher, which the Giants don't have any to spare. Pass.

Pass on Brown. His defense is pretty bad (as has already been pointed out). Another reason to pass : AT&T vs. Citizen's Bank Park. Brown is a LH power (HR) hitter who pulls his HRs. A huge number of the HRs in Philly would not have left the park at AT&T. And since HR power is his big plus (no speed, not a lot of doubles, almost no stolen bases, no glove, ...) he just shouldn't be that interesting to the Giants.

Here's a map of his HRs last year :

Brown-Hrs.png

He is a dead pull power hitter to RF. NOT a great fit for us.

A quick thought : Houston would be a great fit for him. The RF wall is both close and low, they are a young team with a low payroll (and lots of prospects), and he could fit in well for the next 4 years. Brown could hit 35+ HRs in houston. And if his defense is really bad, he can DH.

Why? He is a 2B/SS, and he strikes out every 3.3 at bats. He has a .303 career OBP.

He has some pop, and can steal some bases.

Agreed. BU mid-inf is a strength for us, and Panik may be ready to step into a starting role by mid-late season. No need to take a flier on a mid-inf.

But mostly knows how to take one for the team. I wonder if getting hit so much has caused him to miss time?

What would it take to get him, and would he be a better fit than Panik? Abreu?

I'm liking the Brett Gardner rumors, and I hope SabeySabes is checking on Alejandro De Aza and Franklin Gutierrez as back-ups. The Yankees would probably need to ship Crick+ to convince the Indians to let go of Masterson. Would you trade Crick for Gardner?

His defense is still amazing after a short 2012, and the guy hit mostly doubles and triples in a small park. Him and Pagan would set triples records at The Phone Booth. Obviously, he is left-handed, but he hits fellow lefties close to career norms (.714 OPS vs. .740 against righties). Of course, his game is speed-based and he will be turning 30, but if his knees are looking bad when he is a free agent in 2015, no love lost. Losing Crick would be a lot, but the starting pitching and middle infield depth in the next two years will be immense. An MLB starting LF with good range is needed now.

I am not sure that Gardner is the type of guy I would want in return for Crick. As you stated, he is going into his age 30 season, is only team controlled for 1 year, and his upgrade over Blanco/Perez is not night/day.

I am not saying it would not cost Crick. I am just saying I not sure the Giants are improved enough to part with the undisputed #1 in our system. At the same time, We are deep enough at young arms, and Crick is not even expected to be the first of the Ubers to be ready, that maybe Gardy is the right kind of return.
