I have always thought NT could probably do fine this year as our #5 guy in they rotation. That's not really the issue I had with the rotation. While you don't believe we will compete this season, most Rangers fans expect the FO to at least attempt to. While there is no guarantee with Gallardo that happens, and as you say this team could finish closer to .500. The issue with Tep slotted in at #5 is that likely gives you Detwiler slotted at #4 and Colby as your #3, the way you have them listed here. While I love Colby and what he's done as a Ranger, having him slotted as your #3 basically says we won't compete this year and are looking ahead to another year. That and Detwiler is a wild card and we really aren't sure what he will end up being and if he even makes the rotation as a starter. The everyone is hoping that happens, it's by far a lock. Anyway it will be interesting to see how it plays out.

Well, it isn't just me. I heard Norm Hitzges the other day say that the Rangers would probably be picked to be one of the 3 worst teams in the AL by most prognosticators by ST. Now that was before Gallardo came aboard. I don't see them as being that bad though.

I don't like our offense. I have never been that big of a fan of Choo and we have no idea how Fielder will perform. Beltre has less power than he used to. We very well may struggle to get 20 HRs from each corner position as well as DH.

Great post/link. One of the most heart stopping thoughts for Dombrowski has to be ...

"In 2016 ... [T]he Tigers have just five players signed to guaranteed contracts, and those players will be making a total of $104.8 million. Detroit also begins their $6 million yearly payments to the Rangers for Prince Fielder in 2016, and owns a $10 million club option with a $1 million buyout on Joe Nathan, meaning they’ll be on the hook for at least $111.8 million…with just five players signed."

Scotty -- not to pile on but if price is the last thing an FO considers when in the market for a top SP ... note the reason they couldn't resign Scherzer was just about the money by a team who clearly commits to spending money.

What I was implying is you as a GM are looking for quality first and foremost and price comes in at a lower consideration. You can not set payroll as your number one priority and expect to field a quality team. At some point you have to cracked open the check book or always be satisfied as a second level team

Choo has always been a good player. fielder too if healthy. But to be honest, we are praying on health this year

I think if Profar shows he could play 3rd, Gallo may well end up at 1st

I think Gallo ends up at 1b (or COF) independent of whether Profar moves to 3b.

He is a high prospect and his future depends on his offensive (envisioned Hamilton 2010-like) output; however, Gallo's defensive risk and performance might be improved considerably by a move to 1b since (speculatively) throwing errors are the vast majority of errors committed by 3bmen. Ergo -- move the power corner bat to a spot where they don't have to make a lot of throws.

Maybe, but that would be a waste of Gallo's +rated arm. I'm thinking OF might be more likely.

The deal for Corporan is official, per Rangers executive VP of communications John Blake (via Twitter). To create roster space, the club designated righty Gonzalez Germen, who was acquired only yesterday.

Figured it would be Soto, but after I saw that Texas had been talking with the Astros about Corp and then he was DFA'd last night he just about became a guarantee I figured. Still biding time until Alfaro gets here it appears. Hope we get decent production and defense out of Cheerio and Corp and the Rangers should be good at catcher, for the season.

Goodbye Germen, we hardly knew ye. Literally, so much for stockpiling the bullpen and see what falls out comment yesterday.

My apologies if my posts make less sense today than normal or if my grammar could be worse. Im a little loopy from the drugs from this morning. Had another back procedure today for my torn disc. Currently laid up trying to get my senses back, what little I got left. Wont keep me from rambling and spewing nonsense about baseball however. Bear with me gents, thanks.

Yeah we were a bit premature on that one Wastin, was hoping to see how he was gonna do. Needed an experienced proven backup C though in case Rob was injured.

Yeah, I am good with that. Sorry about your back. Anything with a back is painful. Hope everything turns out well.

What does Corporan get here? Maybe 35 starts before Alfaro gets called up in September?

It sure didn't take the Rangers long to figure out he was a bust. A 2nd rounder from 2013 traded for a DFAed catcher from the Astros. Maybe his cousin's mishandle of the on side kick the other day signaled the Rangers he had bad genes. lol

A couple injury updates:

Rangers starting pitcher Matt Harrison, who is coming off back surgery, is throwing from 75 feet without any issues, according to FOX Sports Southwest. Harrison has made just six starts the last two seasons due to injury.

Rangers starting pitcher Yu Darvish, who missed the final weeks of the 2014 season due to elbow inflammation, is scheduled to throw off a mound Feb. 2 for the first time this offseason, according to FOX Sports Southwest.

Darvish went 10-7 with a 3.06 ERA in 22 starts last season. He is 39-25 with a 3.27 ERA over three MLB seasons.
