Gallardo wouldn't make a bad number 3 given the Rangers circumstances.

Sounds a lot like AJP in that regard. Is his contact rate as good as AJPs career?

I seriously doubt it, he still strikes out 25% of the time, but if he can get that to drop or stay the same and get his walk rate to 8-10% (career its 4%), then that's certainly workable

But his ability to shut down the run game will be what allows him to stay at catcher, the things he is bad at are both teachable

I'm intrigued just depends on what is going back their way...

He's owed 13MM, so it better be minimal if they don't pick up any salary. Apparently Gallardo went to high school in Ft. Worth. Had no clue.

There in lies the catch, is this going to be the thing we spend our money on this offseason? And maybe Milwaukee is actually pushing to cover half his contract so they can pilfer as much as possible

I had heard he was from Ft. Worth and might be willing to re-sign here

Agreed. I'm not against acquiring Gallardo depending on the cost.

That's what has me leary at the moment.

Im hoping the "Top 5" are still the Top 5 after this.

(Gallo, Alfaro, Chi Chi, Thompson, and Mazara)

Would be ok with parting ways with Williams+

He's been mostly healthy in his career routinely putting up over 180 innings. I would love to see that out of a number 3 pitcher.

Let's hope it's a solid deal in what's given up for him.

Just read that Gallardo has the 20th most innings pitched the last 6 seasons among starters with 1155. That's really good to see.

His decline in velocity is a bit concerning.

He's only 28 though...so given my prior reservations about him, I really am okay if they didn't give up a ton./

His velocity hasn't really dropped in the last several years, its just his K-rate

92.6 in 2011 and 01.3 last year

but k-rate has dropped in that same time from 9ish per 9 to 6.83 last year

Groundball rate has increased rom 46.6 to 50.8 last year

Looks like his style of pitching has changed more than anything

If the ground ball rate continues to increase he should fair pretty well with the rangers defense behind him. Would like to see K rate tick back up slightly though
