He will be ready to roll late summer. Has more to do with getting him ready for 2016 than it does him contributing in 2015. He needs the kind of work Derek got last year.

No, he'll be ready to pitch late summer. He won't be back to his old self till the end of September at best.

That's literally what I just said.

I wasn't implying he was gonna be a bad ass if that what you thought.

Actually I like Tim......and disagree that he's "outta touch" with the DFW sports scene.

But he's in the "reporting/entertainment" business now. Action makes headlines, and headlines make news. Rangers aren't making any - which is fine by me - but for news people, it kind of sucks. I get it.

Who is Cow's side kick? He's the one with the most "the sky is falling" type attitude.

:agree:........100%.

Never count on a guy coming off TJ surgery until his second season. And even then, keep your expectations in check a little.

Which is why I was so happy Derek pushed himself to hard to pitch again when he did last year. Those starts were more valuable to his confidence in himself and his ability to come back from the injury than anything else that could have happened. I want to see Perez get that same chance at the back end of the year. The more confidence he gets in 2015 the better prepared he will be for 2016 and beyond.

other than thru trade and there isn't anyone out there in FA that grabs me so it looks like it will be Rua or Ski unless Choice finally grows a pair and wins the LF role.

as far as starting pitchers there's not much left trade wise and no one here wants Shields so i guess we go with Yu, Holland, Lewis and hope that Tepesch and someone has grown into major league pitchers this off-season. maybe Thompson or Chi Chi will make t jump
Plenty of time left to sign a pitcher. Will not be to concerned till JD says he has exhausted all avenues and that is not likely for a while. We have lots of talent other teams would like to have but don't want to show their hand to soon. Wait and see for now.

I don't know if this was/is JD smoke or not. But he said he expects chi-chi to challenge for a starting roll coming outta ST. We'll see.

And isn't some of this, "who is # 1 and # 3/4" stuff a little overrated?

Well it's nicer to have guys you trust to fill their role going forward than having go into ST without much of a guess who will make the rotation. Knowing that Darvish and Holland anchor the rotation is a must. Won't be many 5 or 6 game losing streaks when those two pitch back to back.

Look at the Dodgers rotation for an example of team that has it pretty much figured out who is starting 75% of their games next season.

I started to put the Dodgers down as "THE" example, but waited for this response.

75% might be a little high, but you start with a number of what they probably expect and go from there. They will have guys scratched for hangnails or back tightness etc so 80% is probably too much to ask. So really it be might as low as 60% or as high as 75%. Either way I see you get my point that it's a nice position to be in on December 11th before the following season even starts.

Damn...I just looked it up. Last year the Dodgers had their 1-5 make 137/162 starts last year. That's incredible...Those fortunate bastards.....

"The Rangers plan on giving Detwiler an opportunity to earn a spot on the starting rotation."

The Royals got 151 starts out of their 5 starting pitchers with the most innings. Fucking A...

And wouldn't you know it..The best Rangers team of all time in 2011...Guess how many starts their top 5 starters with the most innings made that year? 157.

The famous Anne Boleyn could almost count on her right hand the number of starters Texas needed in 2011. 7 btw.

I wonder who the right handed reliever is that we are supposed to sign next week?

I still think we will sign one of the free agent starting pitchers who falls through the cracks. Somewhere in between 4-6 weeks from now I think we will sign a starter. Probably a #4 or #5 caliber guy.

Giants did the same at 137 among their 5 starters with the most innings.

Pitching wins man...

Thank you.

I've been saying for the longest of times re: pitching, and more pitching makes baseball life better.

As Wastin says...."You need 10 starters every year, ready to go. Injuries, ineffectiveness will get 2+ every season."

Wastin............not exactly what you say, but it's close, right?
