But the #3 was Manny Machado, Drew Pomeranz and Matt Harvey at 5 and 7 and Chris Sale at 13. Of course we took Jake Skole at 15 who has been a bust. We keep promoting him just because of that. And guess who was at #10. Michael Choice. Some good pitchers listed above plus I know Zach Lee was a 1st rounder.

Everyone seems to be thinking I meant that there were not valuable players picked other than #1. I simply stated that historically the #1 is a lot more valuable than the #4 pick.

The Minnesota #Twins win the Torii Hunter sweepstakes. He returns home on a 1-year contract in perhaps the final chapter of fabulous career.

Here's your answer, Scotty

HaHa. Yet all of the national experts said he was very close to coming here and only wanted to go to a contender and that would keep him from going to the Twins. That is so funny. Even Evan Grant thought he was coming here.

There is almost always a big difference between teh #1 and the #4 though.

I wasn't mentioning this to criticize a draft. I mentioned it because there were a few on here and on ESPNDallas a few weeks back who discounted the importance of the #1 overall pick and now everyone is fawning over Bryce. It is ironic to me.

I'm really shocked you continue to tolerate ESPN.

Rangers weren't good enough for him back then but now he would sign here, no thanks. Go kick rocks in Minny Torii

Someone said this yesterday. Thank goodness

It isn't that bad over there overall. I think a lot of the Wash apologists left over the last year or so, but even some of them weren't that bad.

Yes it is. The ignorance is simply astounding.

Which all adds up to the point that they don't really know jack shit, until something happens! There is however some leaks and best guesses based on deductive reasonings that can lead guys to think certain things. Until something really goes down, I just chalk it up to a good old fashioned maybe

Giving them a chance makes perfectly good sense especially if Hunter is the alternative.

Not if one is playing in LF and the other is playing 1B and Fielder is DHing

Given a chance, I could see Rua putting up numbers similar to Hunter 15-20 HRs and 80ish RBIs, not ideal numbers from a COF, but better than paying Hunter 8-10 million to do the same thing

Giving our young guys a chance and them panning out (plus SMART free agent moves) is what allowed us to become a contender, for them to pan out, we have to give them a chance

Giving that kind of money to Hunter is not smart

These were along my same thoughts as well

Someone else will scoop up Ogando quick one would think and then Kirkman and Mantis may get minor league deals somewhere. Or maybe a team takes a flyer and adds them to their ML roster. Hope they don't expect much from either

It was time for Kirkman and Rosales to say adios. Ogando? Not sure.

Oakland probably will pick up Ogando and fill him full of PEDS and he becomes a #2 starter for them.

Ok kidding mostly

Sad to see Ogando go. I think he still has some very good years left and at some point we will really miss him.

There is always the possibility we can still work out a contract with him I guess.

Kris Medlen and Brandon Beachy are both officially free agents now. I'd like to see the Rangers sign one of them to a small-term/make-good contract if possible. There's a chance that one or both are both cooked, a la Brandon Webb, but they're both still young enough and talented enough that a comeback might be possible.

Was thinking that when I read about them earlier, that's the type JD usually takes a chance on. Both coming off their 2nd TJ
