Marcus Lattimore - RB - 49ers

49ers second-year RB Marcus Lattimore (knee) told USA Today there's "no doubt" he'll be ready for Week 1, and currently feels "faster than I ever was."

"But my quickness is still coming back," conceded Lattimore, who blew out each of his knees at South Carolina. "Getting stronger and making sure my balance is right, those are the two main things I’ve been working on. I feel close. I really do. I feel very close." Lattimore says he could squad 450-500 pounds before his knee injuries, and is at 405 pounds now. Lattimore currently carries RB4/5 Dynasty league value with the potential to rise this summer.

Looks like we'll finally get to see what he's got.

So I just crunched the numbers on our Top 51 with the new Boldin deal. I'll adjust if his first year numbers get reported differently. The cap is set at $133M and if we cut Rogers before June 1st our cap space for the top 51 would be $15,160,766.

Interesting nugget about Fangio. We need to keep him wether Harbs stats or goes.

@CamInman: Like Anquan Boldin, #49ers secondary coach Ed Donatell also signed 2-year contract, per source. Talks underway for Vic Fangio extension.

I just realized May 3rd is a big deadline for the 49ers. The deadline to exercise the 5th year option on his contract is then and it becomes fully gtd even with injury, the amount would be $9.6M. Otherwise they would have to transition tag him next offseason for the same amount of $9.6M if they don't agree to a new deal and then that would take away our ability to use a tag on another player like Crabs, Iupati, Kap.

@JasonLaCanfora: Several teams trying to retain CBs before they hit the market. 49ers making a push to sign Tarell Brown prior to March 11

good article.

yep, if the talent keeps flowing in, at least the HC has a decent chance. if there is no talent coming in, even Harbaugh can't squeeze out wins.

don't think Baalke is a proven 'elite' GM yet, but so far he's done a good job in the draft AND free agency.

As Kawakami is pointing out in this series of articles, it really cuts both ways. Singletary basically had the same talent as Harbaugh, but couldn't do anything with it. Of course, the distance between Singletary and Nolan is pretty great. Ideally these guys would just figure out how to work together toward a common goal.

@BWilliamsonESPN: It’s no secret #49ers are trying to get deals done with Donte Whitner and Tarell Brown before free agency.

Understand the Tarell Brown signing to hold us over, but agree they shouldn't be fighting hard to keep Whitner at this point in his career. We need to get someone back there with better coverage skills that isn't a flag magnet. Whitner did play better last year, but he's getting up there. If they do bring him back it needs to be to transition him out with some young blood. Hopefully "trying to get a deal done" with Whitner means giving him a one year low ball contract offer.

Take everything Bill Williamson says with a grain of salt. I think the guy is required to put something out about the 49ers every day by the looks of some of his "articles".

Brown is already 29, but wouldn't mind if they locked him into a 3 year contract structured to cut him loose after two. It's nice for the rookie to have another veteran CB who's been in the system. That move would make Whitner more expendable. I can see why they don't want Reid to be paired up with a rookie, to go along with Brock paired up with another rookie.

Either Brown gets re-signed or a vet fills that role, then hopefully SS gets filled with another vet, and then add the rookies. We definitely need a high Rd CB, but then throw in a mid to late Rd SS and CB.
