I would absolutely love to have one of the cardinal's younger pitchers. Whether it be miller, rosenthal, siegrast, WACHA!!! but i dont see it happening

From what I hear, we talked to the cardinal's back in early may about taveras. But I haven't heard about us talking about anyone else with the cardinals since then. Perhaps we have, but I haven't heard about it. Usually he'll tell me when we are, but nothing came up today

As an A&M grad, I was really hoping that Wacha had fell to the Rangers in 2012, he went 19 and the Rangers picked 29th :gaah:

Purke was a Tom Hicks screw up. He tried to give Purke 6 million, and the MLB said no. He wouldn't agree to take 4 million, because as a kid he probably figured that if they would offer him 6 million, then he could get more the next year. Then he got hurt and and ended up only making a little over 4 million the next year. Suffice it to say that the Rangers and Purke were both stupid in that situation. They tried to pay him too much initially when they didn't have the money, and he wouldn't take less after that offer was on the table.

All Hicks did was OK the money. The Purke "deal" was a Ryan/Daniels screw up.

Hicks bankrupted the team. That's why it's his fault. To blame Nolan and JD for that is stupid. They had to work within the confines of what the MLB allowed after his irresponsible fiscal plan screwed the team.

I would argue that Jeter was not the best player on any of those teams (maybe 1 year he was), but simply the most consistently present, and thats b/c they Yankees run of World Series began in Jeter's rookie year

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying Jeter is not a good-great player, but he's not as good as people make him out to be

This is exactly the point I was trying to get across yesterday. Suffice it to say he doesn't agree with that mindset.

Bernie Williams was the best player on those late 90s teams, that guy was crazy good, knee injuries eventually derailed his career and his push for 3000 hits

I really liked Bernie Williams. He was one of the few Yankees of that era that was hard to hate. Then that late 90s breed came about and they made it a lot easier to dislike. I never cared much for Posada, Knoblauch (when they had him), Tino Martinez, Clemens, and Strawberry....gross.

Sorta like the same thing with michael young. He was probably never our best player. But for the length of time that we had him he was always a 200 hit hitter and played every day. Also our best leader in the club house. He was our derek jeter

ESPN comments might be some of my favorite. Here's the best one of the week so far.

And the post Ryan era has begun. Jon Boy just ran off the best closer in the game and now he'll go on his annual Hawaiian vacation and do absolutely nothing for this team until February, just like last year. Great move on the part of Ray Davis! He ran off the one man who actually gave the Rangers respectability and put this clown in total control! Mediocrity and irrelevance here we come!

The only thing I remember from the Purke situation was the organization knew what they were getting into. I think there's fault on both sides. I do remember that the organization felt confident in Purke coming to Texas because Nolan supposedly had some influence on the kid and I guess he was from the Houston area as well.

From what I remember the only thing it would have taken Purke to sign with us was if he was given silly money because I thought he was pretty dead set on wanting to go to TCU.

Morales and McCann I'd be fine with, Hart is too injury prone, Beltran's bat is good but he's always on the verge of breaking down, don't want to get saddled with his contract

agree about Morales and McCann. still need another bat after that, Cruz?

I always liked Paul O'Neill

That's not exactly true. Lots of other guys are eligible for arbitration, but they are still under team control.

i didn't forget them but the Rangers can basically just give them a 10% raise over last year. they will probably get more but that's the minimum

Then they should have worked within those confines. Both knew full well what the financial situation was. Never said that Hicks didn't bankrupt the team, but it was Ryan or Daniels or a combination of both that promised the kid (or his dad) 6 million dollars and it was them or JD that passed on Miller, not Hicks.

Everyone in the majors, who drafted prior, passed on Miller . So what? They wanted Purke. He wanted more money than they had to offer. That's not exactly their fault he was a selfish little puke. Unless you always speak out of hindsight, which I have a feeling you do.
