Teams can offer him up to the total they are allowed to spend on international prosoects along with the amounts of international money they have traded for. I think the max is around $12 million or a little less. All teams won't have nearly that much though.
if he's posted before December 2 the Rangers are out of it because all a team can offer is what they have from their international pool and the Rangers have $0 left

Here are the top five teams based on remaining 2024 international bonus pool:
Dodgers: $2,502,500
Orioles: $2,147,300
Yankees: $1,487,200
Giants: $1,247,500
Red Sox: $990,000

Here’s the complete list of international bonus pools for the 2025 signing period:
$7,555,500
CIN, DET, MIA, MIL, MIN, OAK, SEA, TB
$6,908,600
ARI, BAL, CLE, COL, KC, PIT
$6,261,600
ATL, BOS, CHC, CWS, LAA, NYM, NYY, PHI, SD, TEX, TOR, WSH
$5,646,200

Okay. Thanks. It wasn't always like this was it? Seemed like the Rangers bid over $50 million in order to negotiate with Yu Darvish.

Both BP and MLB have Malcolm Moore as our #5 prospect. If there are GMs around the league that agree with that accessment, I sure hope we can work out a trade.
Yeah that raised my eyebrow as well. BP and MLB are being very generous to Moore.

Obviously I wanted the catcher Houston grabbed ahead of us and yes the rating is too high given other prospects and yes he had no breakout first year but..... never mind. Lol

But maybe this speaks of the scarcity of catcher prospects..... is this a reach?

I think at some point this team needs to make a trade for a really good young catcher. We have drafted only one catcher in the last I don't know how many years who has real big league potential and he is not favored at all by the manager. We are not going to allow Huff to become the answer. We are not going to be able to draft a front-line catcher. We spent a 4th on Ian Moller who Keith Law said, at the time, something like, "I haven't found a scout who has said he can hit." We just need to package some good prospects and maybe a veteran and trade for a highly touted catching prospect. We need a really good defensive catcher who is also a really good hitter and who is durable enough to catch 120-125 games each year.

Maybe this kid will make sense when we pick in tje first round. Although, I would have liked for him to have hit for a higher average in college. It will be interesting to see if he hits better as a sophomore.

6. Luke Stevenson, C, North Carolina
Stevenson is both the highest-rated sophomore-eligible prospect and the top all-around college catcher. He hit .284/.420/.535 with 14 homers as a freshman starter on a Men's College World Series team, and he grades as solid in terms of power potential, receiving ability and arm strength.

Then, there is this guy.

9. Ike Irish, C, Auburn
The best offensive prospect among the college backstops, Irish slashed .319/.403/.627 with 14 homers during the spring before thriving with wood bats and earning all-star recognition in the Cape Cod League during the summer. His mature approach enables his left-handed power to play to all fields and he has a strong arm, though his receiving draws mixed reviews.

And this one.

11. Caden Bodine, C, Coastal Carolina
A switch-hitter, Bodine is proficient from both sides of the plate and has some of the best contact skills in the Draft, recording an 8 percent strikeout rate while batting .328/.411/.523 with nine homers as a sophomore. His below-average power is a question, but he's a quality receiver with solid arm strength.

I just heard that the Rangers Josh Boyd visited Sasaki in his home when Sasaki was 15 years old. I hope that counts for something.

It’s got to be one of the toughest positions to fill with a quality prospect. I always seem to stereotype catchers hitting 210 - 230 with or so with 15 - 20 hrs.
Not to mention how taxing it is on a guy to play the position.

I thought it would make sense for the Rangers to pursue him.

From Bob Nightengale:

Power-hitting catcher Travis d’Arnaud doesn’t stay on the market long as the Los Angeles Angels add to their payroll as promised, signing him to 2-year, $12 million deal after Atlanta doesn’t pick up his $8 million option. Angels officially announce the deal
