I said last off season that at some point between then and this off season Nolan will not be here. Nothing surprising truth be told.
It is ultimately his choice. I find it interesting the choice of words though. Most CEO's step down or resign. By saying retire it means he will be done with baseball.

That's a bigger surprise to me than the Nolan news. I thought we might be the team that shot it up to 70 million. I hope it's not the Astros.
Buster Olney tweeted that the Astros are skeptical they can afford him and that their offer fell short.

He also said the Red Sox are not sure they can sign him. So the White Sox might be the front runner.

I think I just wanted to see JD spend some money. I really hope he was blowing smoke by saying the pay roll would be lower. This is the time to reward the fans. Otherwise, with the way fans will perceive Nolan leaving, the attendance could lower.

Says he is resigning as CEO. Closing a chapter in his life. Time to move on to other things.

Wonder how long till he shows up in Houston...

Says he wont be a CEO of another MLB team - also, Ray & Bob bought his interest in the team.

This made the off-season even more crucial for JD. The team better improve, or he will be on the hot seat.

I really hope you guys land Abreu, pissed my Mets aren't going for him, but if it comes down to you and Houston, I would imagine he would pick you guys who are still a contending team.

Retired until he decides to un-retire.

Hey Romeo! Maybe when Round Rock and Oklahoma City player development contracts are up ... TEX will flip back to OKC?

Did y'all know that AJ was going to be part of the pregame on Fox? I might have slept through the announcement but he seems to be doing fine.

I'm personally going to miss Nolan. That said, if he wasn't going to be a positive model for our long term future (3 yrs or so) then move on. The wagon is hitched to JD at this point. Accept it or go sell some more meat, deal with RR, and help Reid out in Houston.

I know Nolan will be glad not to doing those little talks with Buzz and Grieve. Those were like watching teeth being pulled.

I appreciate what Nolan did in helping to get this team from Hicks. He was very excited to have a part in the Rangers back then but you could tell that excitement diminished over time. You really cannot have a two headed monster running the team. And I can't help wonder how much influence he had in picking up former Astros Oswalt and Berkman or any other decisions. I will miss Nolan but this is probably for the best. JD has his skin in the game all on his own so hopefully he will be wise in what needs to be done since the heat will be on him if it does not.
