And that's what so fucking retarded about it, CHOOSING to do something and KNOWING its hurting you

Fielder is a DH only player, he just happens to be getting paid like he does both

The money is a sunk cost, do what actually makes you better

So making statements like "Fielder is our 1B, no matter what is stupid" especially before free agents have even signed, wait til ST for that shit

Idiots, Idiots, Idiots

I agree that we need to do what's best and JD did that when he made the trade for Fielder. I'm sure he tried to sell the platoon idea at 1B, but it didn't work.

Moreland's glove >> Fielder's glove but no chance that Moreland is the everyday 1B.

Wash will go out of his way to make Fielder comfortable, and he's comfortable playing 1B everyday

Not the same thing, Moreland is under contract, you don't have to try and convince him to come here

We will have to wait until the meetings for anything to happen I bet. I hope all the FA's aren't gone when we are trying to work a trade. If the trades don't work we will have to sign scraps again.

JD said they were going back to their "2009 roots" on how to approach signings

I don't know what that means

What ever that "approach" is it ain't working, unless we are just trying not to sign guys and that could be very well that FO hasn't really tried to land anyone yet besides Napoli and we have discussed that

The last word of your post is frustrating "Again". We just saw what the Yankees got Beltran for, why couldn't we do that? We didn't try to sign Beltran.... I highly doubt Choice is ready to play everyday LF.... The only upside is that he couldn't do much worse than Murphy last year.

The sky is falling, the sky is falling

I think most the guys we've "missed out on" is a blessing in disguise, san Napoli, he would've done well here

I think making a statement like "Fielder is our 1B" is foolish on our part, especially when you need a bat, no matter where they play

Napoli's glove >>>> Fielder's glove

Fielder is under contract, shut up and play ball at that point

I always felt Napoli would go to Boston and I understand that. I just wonder why we seemed to never be that aggressive in pursuing Beltran. Or at least that is the perception.

Is losing draft choices that significant to JD?

Not much. We claimed O'Day, Andruw Jones, and others who did very little and called up Andrus and Holland. Don't remember anything outstanding.

I didn't get it when he said it, maybe he said before 2009....

Who wants to give up their good hitters? I'm worried about this trading only business, it's really startng to point to the Dodgers

Guess Choo is still out there....
oh my
I had high hopes for a short term Beltran

Yankees just gave up a 1st 2nd and 3rd rounder to sign McCann, Ellsbury and Beltran respectively

Obviously the FA landscape has changed. These deals are ridiculous and I do not want a deal of 8-10 years for someone over 30. But if there is someone we really want it will cost plenty of money and we will have to ante up. Not the length but the money.

@bradfo: When looked like Texas might be in lead for Napoli today, large group of Red Sox players urged for front office to make push. They did.

I don't know why. I'm assuming Beltran wasn't interested in playing here, or JD didn't want to give up a pick for him. Someone asked what the 2009 approach was and I believe he's referring to not giving up a bunch of your picks. He wants to build the farm again, and those are your trade assets.

I feel he overpayed last year for Berkman. I don't want us to do something that looks like a desperation move like that this year. But I would like to add a few more pieces. We know we are not going to be stupid like the Cano and Ellsbury deals.

I understand, but you can't compare Berkman with Beltran, Berkman was in retirement...
Beltran, while in some decline, tore it up just two months ago
